Are you interested in planning a special evening with a few ( or quite a few)
of your friends? Want to make it special? Different? Not every high school girl
or boy sends out invitations for a Dinner Italiano! Fewer do the cooking, themselves.
What follows is a tried and true recipe for the best spaghetti sauce-ever! And all
you'll need to know about making it:
Sauce and two pounds of spaghetti noodles serve 12. ( For six or less, make
half the recipe).
2 pounds of hamburger meat
1 pound of Italian sausage
2 medium onions
3 ( 8 ounce cans) of tomato sauce
2 ( 6 ounce cans) of tomato sauce
2 ( 12 ounce cans) diced tomatoes
1 medium garlic clove
1 package of fresh mushrooms
2 Tablespoons of Italian seasoning spice
2 Tablespoons of oregano
1 Tablespoon of pepper
1 Tablespoon of salt
First, dice up the onions, bell peppers, garlic clove, mushrooms, and Italian
sausage. Place in a large skillet with the hamburger meat. Simmer until done and
drain off the excess grease. Add the spices, tomato paste, sauce, and diced tomatoes
to the mixture in the large skillet and let simmer for 20 or 30 minutes.
While the mixture is simmering, prepare the noodles. It is easy to over cook
the noodles, follow the package directions. Also try preparing a salad while the noodles
and mixture is simmering. Some ingredients to try in a salad are lettuce, tomato, cheese,
cucumber, eggs, and onion. Garlic bread is another tasty treat to add to the meal.
Leftovers won't be wasted, and if there are any they can be heated up in a
microwave for lunch. Try freezing some for those days you crave spaghetti. Mamma
