This morning I opened my e-mail box, and here was an e-mail about an upcoming charity fundraiser in my area. Among other things happening at their event was a raffle, and they were seeking donations. The e-mail included a list of the items that had already been donated, as well as a mention of the companies who gave them.
Donating one or two copies of your book for a charilty raffle a win-win for everyone.
Donating your book to helps create an incentive for someone to buy a raffle ticket, which means more money to help those benefitting from the charity. As authors, we're not out a lot of money by donating the books, and, if you itemize your deductions, you should be able to write of the cost of your books on your tax return. In the meantime you get some free publicity courtesy of the charity. Best of all, your books find new readers.
So the next time you hear about a fundraiser for your favorite charity be sure to offer them a copy of your book(s) for their raffle. It's a nice way to promote your book and help people in need at the same time.
