Harms of Popular Culture.
A person's perception of entertainment changes acoording to the background of the person,his/her family he/she grew up and social conditions he/she is in.When people get home after a hard day in Turkey, they just want to kick their stress out,to lay down and to watch soap operas or "who fingers who" programmes on TV and follow tabloid press.
It seems a governmental problem to make the social conditions better. But my point is that:Although it seems innocent to follow popular culture,it causes some unexpected and unpredictable(!) problems, especially on posterity.
A child must take somebody popular he/she saw on the screen as a role model.Do you think popish people like Tarkan in Turkey (and many others in many other countries) are reasonable to take as a role model with their strange behaviour and unpleasent,maverick-type of life styles?Answer is obvious:Take a look at teenagers, first step to a throwaway, consumer society. And,what about rising homosexuality rate? It's an unevitable end caused by taking a man who shakes his ass as a role model!
They really play a important role on youth. It has been years when our culture symbol (!) Tarkan appered on TV screens all around the world. You can see some girls in his concerts, aged about 20, crying and screaming his name near the stage and it seems they can sacrifice everything just to touch him once!?What for?
Most of popish singers appeared on the screen are just "singers".They just "produce" music instead of "composing" it.Well, what's wrong with our genious Fazıl Say or İdil Biret who can be real culture symbols? It's strange but real, they're more famous in foreign countries then they are in their hometown,Turkey.
Tarkan's show in New Year's Eve was a glorius victory of Media.Everyone in about 30 countries watched his shaking navel live!!!However, there were really some funny shows on some european TV channels which provides real fun with real art (especially on Spanish TVs).I really appreciate them.
