Vogue in a Book? Entertaining yet flat, that's what I call Sloane Crosley's "I was told there'd be Cake." With an obvious knack for essays Crosley would've served her skills better with less forced humor and more depth through actual writing. Her style reminds me of the typical Vogue magazine column; good enough to sit through a visit at the hair salon -- not good enough for its own book.
