Patda Jim has written an ambitious novel that encompasses over 100 years, and the lives of two ladies, and how they are intertwined.
Marlene is a young Englishwoman in the late 1890's who is married to a successful man in the Netherlands. He seems one of the gentry, and definitely has family money, but what Marlene doesn't see at first is the true character of Paul van der Mehr. He is a cruel, troubled man.
Marieke is a young lady in present time, well, 1999 - She is in business and travels a lot and is in the Netherlands, where she walks to an antique jewelry store and sees a gorgeous diamond ring that she is compelled to buy. The salesman, is Clemens van der Mehr...name sound familiar?
Marieke and Clemens fall in love and they lead a life with love - even through some adversity. She is drawn to Clemen's family home and feels she has been there before.
Journals are found and Marieke unfolds the story of the van der Mehrs. And finds the answer to the mystery of why she feels the connection to the ring...
Jim writes with seamless styles between the two times - both ladies are worthy of love and you feel a kinship for these women. To see the true meaning of love and honor and what it takes to make a life out of adversity.
Excellent book, excellent premise.
Look forward to more from Patda Jim.
