Gaia's Gift by Fran Orenstein, Kindle Edition, World Castle Publishing, ASIN: B006WQFE70, review by ellen george
The Wells family was truly blessed - Jack was a handsome successful veterinarian, Rachel grew and marketed organic herbs, and they had a 4 year old daughter Emma that was the light of their lives. Although they were wealthy, they respected the earth, and Gaia, the Earth Goddess, blessed them.
They were in their cabin cruiser in the Gulf of Mexico when a sudden storm appears, and the family sustains a terrible loss. A great loss that would have broken most people, and it almost broke Rachel. But she found her strength and she and her cat Charm retreat to a deserted island and start a new life there. She has a P.O. Box on another island, and has a short wave radio in case she needs help. Her lawyer knows where she is and furnishes her with monies when she need it.
Rachel goes back to the Earth and grows her herbs, and has animals and lives off of the labors of the Earth, and Gaia blesses the lady and her animals and they thrive.
Five years later, another cabin cruiser is involved in another quick severe storm, and Rachel Wells' life will never be the same. Gaia's work for Rachel is not finished. Rachel's world again turns upside down, but the Fates and the Goddess Gaia know the course to allow Rachel to grow to her potential.
Fans of Jodi Picoult will instantly be attracted to Ms. Orenstein's novel and style, as she just may be the next writer for that genre that women - including Oprah who recognized Picoult to her book club - love to read.
Are you listening friends of Oprah??
As a fan of Orenstein, who also writes childrens and young adult books, this is her jewel to this date.
Her range of writing, from The Mystery at Third Base to this novel, Gaia's Gift is amazing.
A great read!!
