A story of my Boxer Slugger a Hero

Slugger was born April 1, 1986. He was named Slugger because he boxed the whelping box lid when he was a tiny pup. Slugger began his road to heroism at the early age of 10 months. 4 day old Angelle was in her playpen in the family room. Slugger started whining and pawing at the playpen. He was told to hush, as to not wake the baby. Slugger didn't hush, he continued to whine and paw the playpen until someone came over to him. They checked the baby, and she was not breathing. Little Angelle was born with apnea, and Slugger surely saved her life that day. Angelle then had an apnea machine to monitor her breathing, but Slugger always knew when Angelle stopped breathing, and always before the machine emitted it's warning. Slugger's next act of heroism came during a house fire. Dee Dee (Slugger's mom) is tone deaf, and did not hear the smoke alarm go off. Slugger jumped the half door that separated his room from the rest of the house. He went and got little Angelle and took her down the stairs, and set her at foot of the steps, on the marble floor. Slugger then went back upstairs and awoke Dee Dee. Little Angelle only had some bruised toes and a tooth hole in her night shirt, to show for her ordeal. From Kevin: "I was one of the fireman that arrived at Sluggers house the night it was set on fire. That was the most beautiful boxer I have ever seen and he would not let anyone touch that child until he was given a command to let us in. He was, and still is a hero..." In August 1994, Slugger confronted an intruder in Dee Dee's parents backyard. The intruder hit Slugger in the head with an unknown object but Slugger managed to get a piece of him before he escaped. Sluggers head injury caused him to have several strokes, the last one being on August 17, 1994. Tragically, Slugger succumbed to his injury on August 19, 1994, just one day after the birth of Dee Dee's second child. Dee Dee remembers Slugger laying his head on her stomach listening to the baby throughout her pregnancy. Slugger's heroism transcends the boundaries that we generally judge heroes by. He was truly an exceptional boxer, and earned countless times, the title "Boxer Hero".
