As believers, we are commanded by God to be holy because He is holy. If you are living a double lifestyle, you are stopping the God from blessing you. You can't have two masters. You must either choose to serve God or serve Satan. The choice is yours!
Sin was not in the original plan of God. In fact, the first people to sin was not man but angels—Lucifer (a.k.a. Satan and the Devil). Because of that, he was kick out of heaven. That is exactly what sin does to people; it kicks them outside of the presence of God; making it difficult to have a genuine relationship with God Almighty.
When a believer or a person lives a live full of sin, they Jeopardize their future. Their lives become unfruitful. Sin may feel good, but it is only temporary. "Finally, brethren, whatever things are true , whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy, meditate on these things (Phil. 4:8)"
David and Bathsheba David is known as a man after God’s own heart, a warrior, and the person that defeated Goliath. However, like many of us, David also had a flaw.
“It happened in the spring of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the people of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem. Then it happened one evening that David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king's house. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to behold. So David sent and inquired about the woman. And someone said, "Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?" Then David sent messengers, and took her; and she came to him, and he lay with her, for she was cleansed from her impurity; and she returned to her house. And the woman conceived; so she sent and told David, and said, "I am with child" (1 Sam. 11:1-5)
David was afraid and did not want Uriah to know about him having a one nightstand with his wife. Here is what David did:
“In the morning it happened that David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it by the hand of Uriah. And he wrote in the letter, saying, "Set Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retreat from him, that he may be struck down and die." So it was, while Joab besieged the city, that he assigned Uriah to a place where he knew there were valiant men. Then the men of the city came out and fought with Joab. And some of the people of the servants of David fell; and Uriah the Hittite died also.” (1 Sam. 11:14-17). David committed murder; he purposely had Uriah killed.
Separation and guilt Whenever we do something that God is not pleased with, we usually do not and should not feel comfortable. Many people that lost their virginity prior to getting married usually feel that way. I once heard someone talking about the guilt and shame they felt after “giving it up” to someone they though they loved.
It is vital that we do not confused guilt with shame because God never puts shame on His children. Shame is the product of Satan’s device to get you to loose your focus. Here is the difference between guilt and shame: guilt says, “I did something wrong,” while shame says, “I am something wrong.” The reason why God allows us to feel guilt is to let us know that we have messed up. Mercifully, in spite of what we do, God’s grace is sufficient for you and me.
One thing that we must understand about guilt is that whenever we mess up, God Spirit brings that uncomfortable feeling and conviction in our hearts. However, if we continue with that behavior and not change, the conviction we feel will diminish and finally, we will become numb to it. This happens because God has given us a free will. We can choose to use our will to do His will or our own. The ball is in your court.
Hinders God favors in your life God wants to bless His children. One of the primary reasons why many of us do not get what God has promised us is because of our lifestyle. All we think about is going to clubs, partying, and hooking up with anyone that looks good.
Even though sin may feel good temporarily, it’s effects can be devastating. “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life” (Gal. 6:7-8).
When you live an unfruitful life, God favor in your life is going to be minimal. Many of us want a nice car, house, and other material things (which are ok). In order to get some of those things, we have to live a life that encourages God to bless us.
God will not hear your prayers Unanswered prayers are one of the most frustrated things us believers face. The times when you pray and pray, hoping to get an answer from God. However, you do not. While there are several reasons why this happened, one of primary one is that whenever you are living a double life, you've turn God’s ears away from hearing the phone when it rings in heaven. In other words, when you profess to be a “Christian” but live double life, when God looks at you, He does not see what He should—The Blood His that His Son shed on the cross for you and I. Instead, He sees our mess.
It is important to understand that the death of Christ on the Cross gave us access to God. “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). In order to get the attention of God the father, we have to go through Jesus. Without Him, there is not other way.
There were times in my life that I did not understand why God was not answering my prayers. It took me some time to understand that, some of the things I did were not pleasing to God. Even though He told me about them through His word, and used people, I still did not listen. Because of that, I became frustrated, mad, angry, and aggravated. In this Christian walk, you are either in, or you are out. There is no in betweens.
Is there something in your life that is causing God not to answer your prayers? If there is, repent, and do not go back to it again. God wants to deliver you from those things. You can say this prayer:
“Heavenly father, I know that I am not living my life the way you want me to. Please convict me of anything in my life that is not pleasing before you. I repent for my disobedience. Make me a vessel for your Glory. I surrender all of me and not just some of me. I am tired of living a lifestyle that is not pleasing before you. I want to be pure and holy. Take my life and mold me, in Jesus name, Amen.
