As a writer, I want to share with you something that just happened to me: I was given the ultimate warmth of the Christmas Season.
You should know that where I live in Arlington TX we are experiencing Winter weather: 30°; earlier sleet, then snow!
Although my husband has been gone nearly 7 years, I still keep a few of his things in the closet, including a very warm, lined winter jacket.
I was driving home from the grocery store when I saw a young man about 40 years old walking in the opposite direction. He was wearing only a short-sleeved T-shirt - a red one. A red one? A coincidence?
What I did next was just spontaneous...no thinking needed, except to hurry home - just five blocks away - and get into the house and retrieve the jacket from the closet and retrace my route to find the young man.
At first I didn't see him due to a rise in the street. Then over the small rise he was there...walking in the cold. I passed him and turned left into the street just beyond him, grabbed the jacket at the same time I rolled down my window. He saw my actions, and came to the car as I lifted the jacket to view.
The most beautiful smile came to his face as he told me he was walking to get to the church up the block to see if they had a coat or jacket for him; his thanks to me were in his smile. His next words to me are something I will always remember: "There really IS a reason for Christmas, isn't there."
I hope each and everyone of you will feel the Joy of the Reason for Christmas. Just maybe you may have an extra warm jacket you can spare. Keep one in the trunk of your car and should you pass someone on the street in need, you, too, can share and be blessed with the ultimate warmth of the Christmas Season.
God Bless You, as He did me.
