Why We Salute Our Flag
By Cliff McDuffie

My feelings about saluting our flag.

Our flag has been maligned for a long time by our own people and others around the

world and we sometimes lose sight of why we pledge allegiance to it.

This flag in it’s original form carried our troops into Valley Forge

in bitter cold to help establish one of the greatest countries in written history.

On a ship in Baltimore Harbor in 1812 Francis Scott Key was awake during the assault

on Ft McHenry. In the early morning mist and smoke filled sky he was heartened by

“This Old Flag” flying bravely, but tattered, in the morning light signifying that we were

still in charge.

Many lives were lost in the 1860’s during our war of states rights, this flag was

there and eventually reunified our nation

The image of Old Glory being raised on Mt Suribachi in Iwo Jima in WWII is still fresh

in our minds and today, fighting terrorist, whose one goal is to eliminate the USA.

The reason we pledge allegiance to this flag is to remember all those thousands of lives

lost to establish and protect the many blessed freedoms we now enjoy.

Be proud of this nation, salute your flag, the emblem of this great nation, with honor and

dignity.
