My talk in honoring two brothers receiving this award.
Eagle Scout award
March 22, 2009
Tonight it is my honor to recognize not just one Eagle Scout but two and from the same
family. I hope this has caused no hard feelings between the brothers as this is the highest
rank a Scout makes and it is not often that 2 in one family achieve this distinction. So not
only do I recognize the Scouts but also the family tonight.
Where did this name come from? Was to be Wolf Badge as the English had so designated
but the American founders of Scouting in this country thought that the American Eagle
should be honored. So we, in the United States, have Eagle Scouts.
This rank can only be obtained by moving up and through the various rankings of
Scouting and it demands that you do for your community a project worthy of benefiting
your community.
As those of you who are or have been Scouts understand, this is not just another badge to
add to your collection. This is an honor that will live with you for the rest of your life.
There are many outstanding Americans who have obtained this honor. To name a few;
Neil Armstrong (first man on the moon), Gerald R. Ford (38th President of the US),
Michael Bloomberg (Mayor of NYC), Bill Gates (Microsoft Windows), H. Ross Perot
(Perot Systems and one of riches men in world), Donald Rumsfield (Former US Sec of
Defence) J Willard Marriott, Jr.(CEO Marriott Corp)George Meyer (writer and producer
of The Simpons), Wm, C. DeVries M.D,(surgeon and transplanted the first artificial
heart).
There are many other American citizens of note not named here but the idea here is that
men of distinction hold this rank and cherish it and as you move into this elite group of
Americans you are truly in a league of your own.
It is with great pleasure that I salute these two young men Nicholas R. Lenz and
Alexander B. Lenz and also their families for obtaining this position in life and I wish
you the kind of success that those receiving this status, before you, have obtained.
Thank you.
