I once read a supposed true story of a twin on the west coast burning her hand while cooking and her twin called a minute later asking her if everyting was alright, because she had the feeling of a pain that was not her own. I have taken this ideal to the next level, from the mental or "psychic" perspective, perhaps in a style not completely unlike a Koontz novel.

Michael Deshay goes to bed each night and dreams about the same person, Danny Dent, and the life he leads.  Danny Dent goes to bed each night and experiences the same phenomenom regarding Michael Deshay.  At first the dreams are not well remembered by either, but as each man becomes entagled in seperate dangerous situations in their own lives, their dreams about the others life becomes more intense, until they are each no longer just affected in their dreams, but in their own survival.  It is almost as if they have some sort of psychic connection, culminating at the point when Michael saves Danny's life by warning him, in his mind, just before being shot, allowing Danny to "instintively" force death upon his assailant, instead.  Michael is a well-known, high powered businessman currently in an epic power control against Cleveland's most notorious gangster, Angelino Carmen, and conspires with his new love, Lisa Johnson, to take down Angelino's "untouchable" crime syndicate.  Danny has jumped bail in Cleveland and moved to Los Angeles, and has stumbled upon the opportunity of his life to become a major player in the illegal gun trade market.  However, The Dream has infiltrated their lives, with no logical explanation, and neither understands the implications of their apparent psychic connection, until it is too late.  At the urging of his new love, Michael will allow himself to be hypnotised by a psychologist, who insists on making him into a "test case" for dream analysis, but something inside him tells him that is not the answer.  Something is missing...some knowlege that only he and Danny can unlock, that will explain the significance of this unlikely mental crises.  Then, Danny begins to vaguely recall aspects of his dreams that he did not notice before, causing alarming questions to enter his mind...could it be possible?  Michael finally discovers the truth to this disturbing mystery from the most unlikely of sources, Angelino Carmen, his nemises.  Unfortunately, the amazing information, which must have been locked away in his subconscious mind the whole time, will only be given to him as he stares down the barrel of the gun Angelino's bodyguards have pointed at him.  The information does him no good if this is how his life ends, with Lisa standing by his side.  He must find a way to defeat Carmen and "reaches out" to Danny for help, through his mind, but Danny is dealing with the biggest gun deal of his young criminal career and cannot aide his psychic compatriot.  One is good, one is bad.  Two men, opposite in character and purpose, will share a connection that cannot be explained by the medical, nor mental health profession, but still they must discover its meaning, or perhaps lose their minds...or their lives.  In the end, they both find out the truth.  They discover why they have a mental connection, why the connection grew more desperate as their lives became more complicated and dangerous.  In the end, they will discover the truth, the heart-wrenching, amazing truth, but one will not live to enjoy its meaning.
