I am proud that I graduated from Saint Leo College in 1987 with a degree in Criminology. I learned in my four years at SLC more than anyother school in my life.
If I went back to Saint Leo today I could pay around twenty grand a year just in tuition. To learn about the liberal arts and taking responsibility it would be worth every cent but NOT as job training.
The vast majority of majors at liberal arts colleges are not worth the tuition purly as a stepping stone to a good job.
President Obama is throwing huge amounts of $$$$ down the trash if he thinks liberal arts degrees will result in more good jobs.
A few very gifted students will come out on top no matter what life throws at them. Every medical school, law school, and graduate school has some that turned lemons into lemonade but not on average.
President Obama said in a speech college tuition is going up so fast it even outruns healthcare.
President Obama has good intentions. I voted for him.
I can't take away anything from bleeding heart liberals for caring about the greater good. From college tuition to healthcare reform liberals are the nation's conscience.
I also believe in fiscal discipline. We can't afford to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars purly to educate people.
High school can educate people. The public library can educate people. High college tuition should be reserved for essential requirments of society.
