Weight Loss New Years Resolution
By Patty Pobanz

Another New Years, the same resolution year after year. Do you always set a New Years Resolution to lose weight and then never stick to it? Well... you're not alone.
Most people make a weight loss goal as their New Years Resolution, but did you know that barely anybody keeps their goals? Well if you're one of these people who set the same goal every year, this time it's your turn and I'm here to help give you advice on how to stick with it, once and for all.

First of all you have to set a weight loss goal. Most people who make these goals need to lose 10+ pounds. So my suggestion would be to start your goal with 10 pounds and no more. Now if you can get these first 10 pounds off and then you want to lose more, then add another 5 or 10 pounds at a time and no more. When we start with smaller goals, they are easier to attain and they keep us more focused and it doesn't seem like it's that hard or too far away to reach.

Secondly you MUST have drive and passion to do this!! If there's no drive or passion, I promise you....you will not succeed. You need to stop all the negative thinking and tell yourself that you will do it this time and that you will succeed! This is powerful positive energy and when you have this positive attitude, no matter how hard it is for you to do, you will stay focussed, even when it gets really hard. Quit the complaining, quit lieing to yourself and do it for your own body.

Now....here's what I want you to always keep in mind, every time you want to quit or give up. When our bodies have excess weight on them, this is very unhealthy. For every 10 pounds that you are overweight, your risk for disease significantly increases. If you are a healthy individual at this time, you need to realize that disease can strike at any time and when you least expect it. If you already have been struck by a disease, this is your opportunity to get your health back, by taking care of yourself. It is never too late to start taking care of our bodies. If you are a parent, ask yourself this question, "Who's going to take care of my children if I get sick?" Well no one can take better care of their children then Mom's & Dad's. So parents, it's time to wake up, if you're overweight do it for your children and for your families. Lose the weight and stay healthy and/or get healthy.

Start a weight loss and exercise program, but always discuss it with your doctor first, to insure that he agrees with what you are doing. Never go on any diet where you have to take pills or where you have to do any fasting. A healthy diet consists of the following:

Breakfast - Have some protein, healthy carb (fruits) and some healthy fat.

A.M. Snack - protein, carb, healthy fat. This may look like some low fat string cheese with an apple or 7 almonds with an orange

Lunch - Have some more protein (a piece or chicken or fish), healthy salad (2 Tablespoons dressing)

P.M. Snack - protein, healthy carb, healthy fat

Dinner - Protein (lean chicken, fish, steak), small baked potato with 1 teaspoon butter and some steamed vegetables or salad (watch the dressing)

Evening Snack - light yogurt, no more than 110 calories.

Drink water throughout the day (at least 8 cups per day, more in the summer when it's hot)

*This is just an example menu plan and is not intended for all people. Weight loss plans should be based on individuals height, weight and amount of exercise.

If you eat regularly throughout each day and fill your day up with healthy foods, eating every 3-4 hours, your bodies metabolism will continue to move at a fast pace, allowing you to burn calories easier. When we miss meals or skip meals our metabolism slows down and then we can't seem to burn calories so easily. This is the reason why people have a hard time losing weight. We need to fuel our body. As an example....when we drive our car, it takes us from point A to point B to point C, and to get us to all these destinations we need to put fuel in the car or the car will get stuck. The human body is exactly the same way, we need to fuel it and if we fuel it with the right kinds of foods, it will keep going. It will keep your metabolism moving at a faster pace.

God gave us only one body. It is up to us to take care of it. If we don't take care of our body and we get sick, there's nothing no one else can do to fix it, other than you yourself. So stick to your New Year's Resolution this time and keep that positive energy flowing. Don't think negatively and don't say that you can't do it. Beacuse you can do it!!

When you're at the grocery store don't buy the junk foods. Don't allow the junk into your refrigerator or into your kitchen cabinets. If you don't have it in the house or in your car, you won't be tempted to eat it.

Have a Happy New Year and Let's Lose Some Weight!!
