Explanation below...

Nobody's reading me, reviewing me (my stories), so why even write?? Losing trackers, getting fewer reviews, so there you go.

When I don't hear from you/get reviews on my stories, it hurts. It really hurts!  It also hurts me when people review my poems because as I alluded to before, I don't consider myself a poet. I don't know what I am doing (right).

As an example, I only got two on my newest one (I've since removed the story). One of my poems has 89 reviews. Are my words worth that many reviews? I don't think so!

I will be taking a break for a few days; need time to think, think of other things to write about. It has been a crappy day all around; just keep me in your prayers.

Hope you understand. I will be reading/reviewing you, just not posting anything for a few days.

I hope you aren't angry with me; maybe I'm being selfish.

Just don't understand why I can get bunches of reviews on my poetry, barely anything on my stories.  Am I writing about the same old thing too much?  Maybe so, but disability awareness is something I'm very passionate about.

It doesn't help when the disabled character is often portrayed as a bit (minor) player, or the butt of jokes.  I'm trying to change that.

I'm not angry with you. Just disappointed in myself and the lack of reviews on my stories.

~Karen.

Karen I came across "Taking A Break" and I do understand how you felt when you wrote these words, and I appreciate your honesty! but I am so glad you were only taking a break. Your stories are an inspiration to me each time I visit. I must confess I really need to visit you more often.

You are a blessing to me Karen, and I believe to so many others so keep on writing your stories!

Hello Karen, just stopping by to let you know I am one of the guilty ones who don't always leave comments on posts I read..it isn't because I don't appreciate the post, it is that sometimes you mean to leave something and than something happens and you put it off until later. I have you on my favorite authors list and I know when you do take the time to post something, but my intentions are really truthful when I say that I understand. I have had a blog for almost 4 years now, and sometimes I do not even get on comment on whatever I post..but the blog site has a spot called "viewers" and it keeps a running total of how many people stop by and read, but don't comment, and somethimes that used to really bother me, but than I realized that they were coming back again and again, according to the viewer count, but just not commenting. So, I just figured that, hey, they were interested in what I had to say each day, but didn't want to comment, but would be back the next day. I post because I like the venue to express what is on my mind, or to get something off my mind, like venting about something. I guess that is why I am guilty of looking at peoples posts, sometimes commenting if I have the time, or plan to come back later..I think from now on I will try and find a thumbs up icon, or a smiley face, to at least let someone know I was there and did like what I read. Hope you will forgive me. Please don't think about stepping back for a while, or as I once did with my blog, I was so hurt I shut it down, and the only one it hurt was me, because I loved blogging so much. So now I always post for me first, than hope others will enjoy it also, and if no one comes, I still did it for myself.

I've never been able to figure out why some people get more reviews than others, Karen. I know you've always done what people expect us to do, reciprocate reviews, and that's beautiful.

I've always enjoyed the authentic voice in your work. :-)

Hi Karen,

I know the feeling.

Karen, I know your heart is in writing about those with handicaps. Have you tried doing this without using the letterform? Try showing your characters in a story form with a plot, a beginning, middle, and end. Bring them to life and give them speaking parts. This is just a suggestion. Maybe you have done this. Let me know, if you have.

Hugs,

Come back!! Come back!! Believe me I know how you feel, Karen, Luv. A time or two I have posted other types of work under Poetry because it is the only category that generates much traffic. Think it is partly because it is hard to read from a screen for long
periods. With my eyes, I have to empathize. Wish it wasn't so expensive and time-consuming to print everything out. Most writers are probably like me, in that paper piles to the point where
avalanches threaten. But we need to support each other!! I am here and now resolving to read more of the longer works that are posted
at the Den. Especially Karen Vidra's!! I apologize for having been neglectful. I should know better. Does hurt when your work is
ignored!! I hope everyone who reads this will vow to take more time to read all types of writing. Whenever possible, buy books by authors they admire. ((((((Love ya!))))) Pea

Well if it's any consolation, the lack of review is sometimes people's plain laziness - poems are quick and easier to read (not really true but in people's minds) and I've been screaming about my music since august and no only will people NOT go to my website or storefront to download a song for Free (let alone when I charge a few cents) but they often give no feedback, yet they say "good luck a lot" I did get some nice comments from AD people but I had to run the song right by their nose and invite them to comment. That's how it goes on the internet. Everyone is impatient, and they want everything for free. I haven't sold one copy of my novel from this site or the internet. I wonder what will happen when I finally DO release my CD?
Just keep swinging and writing!

Hi Karen,we all need a break now and then to reflect. I've taken an extensive one, as you've probably noticed. When I feel discouraged about my writing, I remind myself that I write first of all for me, I write because I love to write, and yes, I want folks to read my work, but I know even if they don't, I will not give up writing because it has become an important part of my life.

Don't you give up either. I don't post on all of your works, but I can tell you that you do have an important message to get across and even if only one person reads what you've written, then you've gotten your message across to that one.

Take your break, but remember: you write for you first.
Blessings, my friend,
Jeanette

OMG I did not know, gurl told you YOU are doing a fantastic job. Many reviews in my books, I look at it as part of the business. We cannot count our writer's worth on our reviews in particular. Guess for me it just feels like it is part of the heart creativity just runs through my veins along with my blood.

As long as you write about what you want to write about that is all that is important. Hug, hug know I am finding this late but sending you hugs anyway.

Hi Karen,

As you have probably noticed, I am not around the Den that much. I can assure you that I do try to drop in and I never fail to respond to one of your reviews. I do not post very much at all, unlike you. I also find that my short stories (only ten or so) have taken six years to get a number of reviews. It may be a time factor. In any event, please do not be discouraged. Amour et paix, ton ami de la C-B, Canada,

Karen,

Go here - www.writing.com - It's a free to join writing site and when you post your work you'll get more reads and reviews than you can imagine. Not merely reviews, but many very helpful ones as well. You have to understand though (and I'm sure you do) that you will always get more reads than reviews. There are many contests you can enter as well.

Also, I would like to say that some people will say that you should write for yourself. I think that a writer comes to a stage (if he/she is growing as a writer at all) that he/she is no longer writing for self, but writing to be read. I don't blame you for wanting to be read, and I can understand your wanting feedback as well.

As wonderful as AD is, you're just not going to get reviewed as often as you will on writing sites such as WDC. AD's style does not lend to reviews as much as author recognition and promotion, I think. That is a wonderful thing, but sometimes its best to go to a specialty store to gain special items that you are seeking.

Go to WDC and check it out. I am absolutely certain that you will love it and you will be fulfilled by the experience. Tell them Paul_K sent you ;]

And no, I don't have anything to gain by your going there. I am just a member.

Karen, as I mentioned before to your lovely sis... as a writer you write for yourself. What if the internet would crash down tomorrow and we couldn't share our thoughts via cyberspace anymore? Would you stop writing, or would you go back to the 'ol pen and paper? I hope you would. And those reviews... I'm blessed that many people seem to enjoy my poetry, but not many leave me a note on my articles and stories. You know what? It doesn't matter. I posted those stories because I like them and I wanted to share them, not to gain as many reviews as possible.
I understand your pain, however, and I hope that you will continue to write, soon!
Best wishes to you and much Love!

Look at me. How many am I getting? Precious few I think you'd agree. But look, is counting truly important? We should spend that energy trying more and more to write something outstanding. We all need to write something more outstanding. Something that will get some key person's attention. That could change our lives. I, at least, think it could. Maybe my head's in the clouds too long a time!!! Cheers

Karen,

Don't worry - you're always telling me not to depend on readers or getting reviews, and here you are, doing the same thing! Take a break if you need it, you know you'll have me waiting for you when you decide to pick up the pen. Others, too, you are a special part of the Den, and it will be quiet while you're gone. Too quiet - you raise awareness for the less fortunate, the disabled, please continue to be their voice - sadness, well expressed.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
