Too many times child stars get a bum rap...
I am an adult (42), but I have always enjoyed child stars. It doesn't matter whether they are involved in movies, tv, or in music: I LOVE THEM ALL!!
I particularly like the singing stars: Kata Hay, Billy Gilman, Hunter Hayes, and Melise Jow are ones I especially enjoy. They are all young, yet their talents are OUTSTANDING!!! All excel in their chosen fields (in this case, country music), and it is exciting to see what the future holds for these young singing sensations!!
I also enjoy the work of the ones in movies or in tv: Hallie Kate Eisenberg is probably among the best and brightest in the business. And she is ADORABLE. I could watch her all day!! Another one I really enjoy is little Johnathan Lipnicki. Another little cutie. he is tops in what he does, too!!
I also like the former ones, the ones who have grown (yes, they do grow up, I'm sad to say!). These include Alisan Porter ("Curly Sue"), Bryton McClure ("Family Matters"; he is an accomplished young R & B singer), Sunshine Lee (she was on the short-lived series "Mulligan's Stew"; I LOVED that show!!), and Danny Cooksey ("Diff'rent Strokes", various local Oprys, and other television shows and movies). They may all be grown now, but I will never forget them or their work.
Now there is a new crop of up-and-coming child stars: Dakota Fanning, Taylor and Sloane Momsen, Angus T. Jones, Daniel E. Smith, Coronji Calhoun, and Parker McKenna Posey. Some of them may not be familiar to you yet, but, mark my words--they will be sooner than you may realize. Some have already starred in blockbuster movies. There are, undoubtedly, more on the horizon. Shows like "Next Big Star" and "Entertainment Tonight" are always featuring new, upcoming talent, and so are "Live With Regis and Kelly" and "Rosie".
So don't be quick to criticize: yes, child stars have turned bad, but there are many good ones out there, stars who don't let fame get to their heads and are a joy to work with (or watch). These good kids are the ones I really admire: they have what it takes to be famous, yet they are regular, "normal" kids who just happened to be at the right place at the right time and, as a result, became famous.
This is why I am such a big fan of child stars, even though i am an adult.
