I have several movies that really stand out in my mind; it is because of these movies that I consider them among my favorites.

Let's face it..

Like many people, I love movies. However, my taste in movies doesn't always go along with the majority, and the reason I say this is because I know a good (or maybe not so good) movie when I see one.

Like, for example, "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas." Or my newest favorite, "Dante's Peak." (By the way, I just watched it again today; I've now seen "Dante's Peak" three times!!). Critics lambasted moth movies; they said that they were terrible and that money shouldn't be wasted on them. I happen to disagree with the critics; I LOVED both "Dante's Peak" (lots of sit-at-the-edge-of-your-seat action to be found in THIS action/disaster/thriller!!!) and "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" (CUTE movie; Jim Carrey should be PROUD: he made a VERY CONVINCING Grinch! And Taylor Momsen handled her first major movie role like a seasoned pro!).

I also loved "Curly Sue". Young Alisan Porter had a big part in this movie. She made me laugh, and she made me cry. THAT, my friend, is the mark of a TRULY gifted actress.

But if I had to choose my ALL-TIME FAVORITE movie, well, that honor goes to "Coal Miner's Daughter" (and it's NOT just because Loretta Lynn happens to be my favorite country singer!!). I could not believe how good of a job Sissy Spacek did in portraying Loretta. She not only looked a lot like her--she SOUNDED JUST LIKE HER, not only when she sang, but when she talked! It was absolutely AMAZING!! (I have met Loretta and have talked to Loretta; Sissy Spacek imitated her PERFECTLY!!) I NEVER tire of watching that movie!!!

Another movie I loved was "E. T." I remember seeing it in the theatre, and I remember crying my eyes out when the little alien dies. That movie was truly magical in every sense of the word!! That is another movie I never tire of watching time and time again!!

Forget about movies like "Erin Brockovich," "The Monster's Club," "Panic Room", or other blockbusters (most feature an ungodly amount of gratuitious violence, sex, or cursing) that seem to be popular with today's movie-goer. They do NOT interest me. PERIOD. Give me good, old-fashioned family-oriented fare any day (although "Dante's Peak" is NOT really geared for families; still, it's a good movie!). Movies like the Disney fare are more my speed. I also like the aforementioned movies, not only because they are so good, but because they ENTERTAIN. Other such movies that come to mind are "Joni," "The Other Side of the Mountain," "Stuart Little," and "Little Rascals."

I am probably the toughest critic around (and I don't even do it for a living!). I know what I like (or DON'T like) when it comes to movies. Ask Karla. She knows what I am talking about!! (In fact, she was the one who told me about "Dante's Peak": She'd seen it at the theatre, and she recommended that I watch it. I did, and although parts of it nearly scared the poo outta me I still enjoyed it!)

You show great spunk in championing movies that you really love despite what you said about your opinions not going with the majority- and that is what loving the movies is all about. I don't agree with all of your points (I found "Panic Room" fascinating and "Stuart Little" poorly written and intolerable) but admire your willingness to say that's what's what. Great job!

By the way, my favorite films? Quiz Show (1994), Blade Runner (1982), Shoah (1985), The Truman Show (1998), and True Romance (1993).
