An inquiry on the traditional question: "Is a woman allowed to be an elder in church?" The position of opponents and proponents is laid out short, conclusions are made about the way of communication about this question, and the historical, philosophical and biblical backgrounds of both positions are evaluated.

Laws pinned down philosophical ideas and democrated everything, exept for slaves and women. Seven centuries before Christ, Solon legalised the buying of women as stateprostitutes. Leaders like Pericles and Thucydides wrote laws to keep married women in their houses, in women-quarters, never allowing them to go outside. Women had the rights of slaves, they stayed lifelong minors, and were lorded over by their fathers, spouses and later their sons. They were not allowed to do any business, even getting educated was an impossibility because a womans mind was completely subserviant to that of a man. In later times they were allowed to learn to read, but that what was necessary for starting a career, was never taught to them.
