This article is on the current controversy of Pakistani film actress Meera's working in Indian film "Nazar".

Much pattering about prolemic of Nazar has been a plague of locust. Issue has plagued through the heat of Pak-India relationship. But Meera seems to be holding a moral trump on it. Like dog chasing a bus. Controversy has crusted on the arbituary aptitude of enlightened moderation. Moderate thinking, takes years to grow. Moderate nations today took more than two hundred years to light up their national thinking. In this case enlightened moderation is the case. It is an uphill task by our higher-ups which some perceive is a road to disaster. No its not, but we haven’t been able to even scrap through it. Moulvis are a part of our community so are the members of our film industry. They don’t differ on ideology, rather their vision is different. Both have a vision of success but one’s alleyway seems in extreme, while other claims to be liberal. No doubt, hardships are part of both. A Chagrin, that after many years we still fight on religious ideology.
More perturb is, we have failed to acknowledge if our Quaid wanted a secular or extremist Pakistan. In India they downgrade Jinnah on the basis that he never supported secularism.
Murder be it original or Film Murder is a fiery in our society. Our buffs might are prepared for A level or O level, but abhor the idea of Agha Khan Board, or rather they don’t decipher its basic philosophy. Philosophy, logic, debate are not the words extremists would like to hear, rather whoever does, is declared infidel.
“Me good, you bad” phrase is on the move. Meera has time and again appreciated President Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and Federal Minister Sheikh Rasheed for their encouragement and support to her. Rather in a recent interview she said that she prays for Musharraf after each namaz, prays for him after reading Quran, and is even ready to give up her life for him. One thing settles, Musharraf certainly has secured through the grey cells of our film industry. Bravo Mr President. This reminds me of Marilyn Monroe whose seductive cliché of “Happy Birthday, Mr President” still itches historians, faltering a possible relation between President Kennedy and her. The actress latter attempted suicide by drug over dosage, while our prima donna received threats from religious circles for her tempting kissing scenes. Now the controversy moves over, weather there are kissing scenes in this film or not. Two main issues kept the religious circles perplexed. Kissing and Sex. But how chirpy neither is there. These goofs might not have watched her ventures with Samina Pirzada. They were more seductive and resulted in higher levels of testosterone. No controversy over it, current ball game did the same.
Few moulvis visited Meera’s mom in Lahore and inquired rather interrogated her about Meera’s kissing and sex scenes, who then later fled to London amid death threats. She cautioned Meera not to go back to Pakistan. But our diva was courageous enough to come home and face threats. Adeaquate security was provided and she still faces embroilment with dauntlessness and gallantry.
She is brave at least to stand up and say what I have done is right. In a recent interview she expressed her distress over the lack of sex education in Pakistan. Should she know, she is a citizen of nation where Hudood ordinance is part of our constitution. And one postulates to follow different clauses of law to become a law abiding citizen. No matter if you break red lights, but you have to accept Hudood ordinance as long as you are in Pakistan. One of the most vocal opposition of Hudood ordinance, Asma Jahangir was part of the ambiguity surrounding enlightened moderation. Be it enlightened moderation or the moderation that should come under light.
Crafts of Mahesh Butt are mostly controversial, his seductiveness in a filmi scene with Pooja Butt or the vulgarity or the cling of Pakistani actress in such a pipeline, he is famous for it. Some reckon the whole frolic was to procure popularity, through media circles. But such attempt has attracted hot red eyes. Meera would now have to wait long before any Bollywood director signs her in. Her current aims are to attain heights in Hollywood mountains. But had she not seen “Eyes wide shut” or “Kama sutra”, any intent of such royal idea can cause royal havoc. So the better idea would be to spent next few years in Lollywood. Though no hedge is there to reach Hollywood, just an air ticket will do the job. But a replica from a country where the organizers of mixed marathon get beaten by police, is not a good notion. Having said that, Meera should adopt wait-and-see attitude with the right opportunity at the right time. But my advice is to be with right people and the right way, which otherwise can be hazardous, and can once again awake threats of bomb blasts in Cinemas.
Meera should now cut corners to settle “Nazar controversy”. It’s such crummy to talk about. Hats off to the woman who has proved to have her elegant style of handling such predicament. All eyes are now on the next gamble of Meera. Who knows? the next venture might be Meera directing a movie with Pooja Butt as lead actress!!!
