Walking in the forest

I left my car by the gate and hauled out my backpack and slung it over my shoulder. I walked out into the forest on a small dirt path. The further i went the louder the birds became. Its early in the morning and the mist is still hanging in the air. The pine needles are soft and damp under my feet. Moss grows in a soft blanket and muffles the sounds of my steps as i continue walking. I look up at the trees and find that they almost become a canopy above my head. Squirrels come out and chatter at me for invading their forest while chipmunks scurry along under the leaves looking for things to eat.  I walk and feel so alive out here. No phones, no computers, no one but me. I enjoy the feedom as I walk along and trudge through the trees. I find a stump and sit for just a moment and look around at the beauty and listen to the stillness. I sit for just a little while then I carry on because I know where I am heading. It takes me most of the morning to get to where I have wanted to be. There it is, my heart beat quickens as I get close. I find myself almost wanting to run but I keep myself calm and finish walking. A wide smile appears on my face as the branches give way to the rocks before me. I step out and there it is. The mountain, with its blue haze and slate colored rocks. The sun is now up and fills the scene in front of me with light. No clouds just clear assure blue sky. What a view, what peace.

A walk in the forest is what I used to do when troubled, and now I cannot walk that far, so I just stay out of the forests. They are peaceful and nature is at it's best under the trees and the smell of the pine woods is refreshing and makes you feel alive.
