Teachers, Your Children and ADD/ADHD

This is an article that discusses the teacher's role in determining whether or not a child has ADD/ADHD

Over the last 20 years or so, ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) have become popular diagnoses for children who are having a hard time getting good grades in school or are having a hard time paying attention in school. Teachers and parents are both very quick to place the blame on these disorders when it comes to the difficulties that children have.

I myself, had a teacher tell me, when my daughter was in the first grade, that she had one of these disorders. My daughter was doing very well in school. In fact she was getting straight A's. You can imagine my surprise when the teacher told me that I needed to take her to the pediatrician and have her tested. The problem was not necessarily her grades. It was the fact that she was having a hard time paying attention.

I did what the teacher advised and took my child to the pediatrician only to discover that there was not a very detailed test that was given to discover if she did in fact have ADD or ADHD. If I remember correctly, this was 10 years ago,
