Many times I wish there were no televisions, radios, computers and cell phones. The distractions are overwhelming and peace is difficult to find. My attention is constantly diverted from ever having quiet time, alone time. The noise and chatter is 24 hours a day, non stop. I question if any of us realize we are losing the battle for wisdom and growth in spirituality. We get caught up in all the media and our faith is put on the back burner. Most people do not want to speak of God or any of that “stuff” and the reason is it’s not part of their daily lives. It is foreign to them; so why would they want to participate in a conversation that has no comprehension or sustainability within their minds.
I hate to say this but we have become a society of complainers, whiners and blamers. We have no foundation; most have based their lives on money and status. How foolish this is. When the majority of the world lives on two dollars a day and no running water are we going to sit here and complain about not having the abundance we used to have or the inability to buy certain materialistic things. It’s ridiculous; maybe what’s happening in the economy is a good thing. It will bring some of us to our knees and cause us to reevaluate our priorities and thinking.
I recently read Revelation 3: 15-21 and it made me uncomfortable but it hit home. Read these words and let them sink in. Dont let the worlds thoughts affect you while reading.
“I know what you do, that you are not hot or cold. I wish that you were hot or cold. But because you are lukewarm I am ready to spit you out of my mouth. You say, “I am rich, and I have become wealthy and do not need anything. But you do not know that you are miserable, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. I advise you to buy from me gold made pure in fire so you can be truly rich. Buy from me white clothes so you can be clothed and so you can cover your shameful nakedness. Buy from me medicine to put on your eyes so you can truly see. Be eager to do what is right, and change your hearts and lives. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and eat with you, and you will eat with me.”
Can’t you see it? God is telling us we put worldly possessions ahead of Him. He is troubled that we don’t truly follow him. We are lukewarm. Yes, maybe we pray at times and do a little bit of charity work but we still value our possessions higher then him. Let’s get off this merry-go-round and take a stand with the Lord. I don’t want to be lukewarm anymore. I am not going to let the world and all the negativity pull me down into a whirlpool of misery, apathy and blindness. So today I ask you, accept the Lords invitation, and open the door when he knocks for he is the answer to peace and salvation.
