As we focus on Fourth of July, I reflect on individual freedom. I think what
can truely help us be free is to forgive those who have hurt us. I know
that is extremely hard to do and you might wonder how you could
possibly forgive others who have hurt you so badly.I understand, but
do we really want to carry this baggage of resentment, hurt, and
bitterness until we die? Do we want to have this knot in our stomach for-
ever?
I can only tell you what helped me. I needed to talk to someone who
would understand my feelings. There are many emotions to reflect
upon. For me, I also wanted to tell Jesus my emotions. Yes, even
anger.I realized what happened wasn't my fault and the person
who sexualy abused me must have been a tortured soul, and I
ended up praying for them and finally forgiving them.
This took time and many tears, but the effort was well worth it!I have
a joyful life! I have a joy that I love to share with others. Is my life perfect?
Of course not, but I have found a freedom that gave me a new life.
So, what do you think? Would you like to have real freedom? It doesn't
mean you forget, it just means you aren't going to let what they did
affect you for the rest of your life.I wish you joy and freedom!
