During the past 150 years people’s attitude towards Evil has changed dramatically due to the fact that the human race considers itself to be far too technologically sophisticated and scientific to continue to believe in such things as demons who are busily stoking up the fires of Hell as they gleefully anticipate our demise within those evil flames. For many of us a belief in the existence of an entity known as the Devil, Satan, or Lucifer, is no longer possible because he has become just too passé. Indeed, if the Devil, complete with horns, tail and a pitchfork, were to suddenly appear before any one of us, we would most likely pass some remark about his 'interesting outfit' and then promptly ignore him, having far more important things to deal with in this hectic, ‘me orientated’ world of the late twentieth century. The soul-chilling fear which once upon a time would have resulted from such a demonic appearance, would not now take place. The best the Devil could hope for would be the element of surprise and possibly confusion over how to respond to this sudden, unexpected event.

Of course, we allow Hollywood to titillate our desire to be scared and excited. Film directors and producers give us graphic horror stories in which Evil slithers triumphantly across the screen until the last few frames, when it is ultimately banished by the power of Goodness. This is acceptable and believable because it is entertainment, something created to relieve our boredom. A story with special effects which is guaranteed to hold our attention for an hour or so. It isn’t reality, therefore, we give it no lasting credence.

However, our lack of belief in the Devil and Hell in no way has weakened the power of Evil. When looking back over the events of this century, it is frighteningly evident that Evil has been nurtured and strengthened within the hearts of many. At times, it has been blatant, but at others it has used its most effective and deceptive tactic, that of subtlety. When Evil is blatant, it is much easier for us to stand and face it; we can see what we are up against, but when it is subtle, we often do not recognize it, we misinterpret it as something else. And by doing this, we actually strengthen it because we give it acceptance, calling it such things as 'bad luck, mistakes, one of life’s little trials.' That is not to say that every unfortunate or negative occurrence in our lives is caused by Evil, to think in that way is to become paranoid. At the soul level we often make choices which create difficulties within our physical lives, but they are a part of our learning process and are in no way indicative of Evil at work. However, do not quickly dismiss each and every negative event as 'just one of those things.' Consider the possibility that Evil may be initiating what is happening to you.

If you are a Lightworker, then you are particularly at risk from the power of Evil and will experience frequent psychic attacks. If your everyday work or special interest is in an area where you are helping others in some capacity, then you are a Lightworker. Perhaps you are a person who runs a shelter for battered women, or are an animal rights activist. You may be a counselor for teenage runaways, or have begun to develop your spiritual awareness as you train to become a healer, a medium, or a therapist in alternative medicine. If you are giving of yourself in order to help others, then you are one of many who are presently anchoring the Light vibration into our planet and, as such, are being targeted by Evil in order that your work can be stopped, or at least undermined.

You may experience sudden accidents or illnesses which do not respond to treatment and which keep you from your Light work for at least a while. Perhaps it will be a family tragedy or trauma which interrupts your commitment to spiritual development. And, if none of these strategies have been successful for Evil, then your emotional level serves as the very best battleground in which the negative forces can overcome you. It is very difficult to identify when Evil is at work within your emotions and it can remain there undetected for long periods of time, sometimes even for years. It encourages fears and unhappiness about yourself or loved ones, bringing depression and hopelessness as it whispers its cruel lies. It is one of the most severe forms of psychic attack and will need courage and Angelic assistance to overcome.

You may also find that you have caught the attention of lesser adversaries, as well. The Light which you carry attracts negative elementals to you, and they, like the proverbial moths to a flame, hover around you, waiting to be transmuted to a higher form within that Light. Meantime they are causing havoc in your life. The following are a few occurrences which may indicate that these negative elementals are active around you: important items, including pieces of clothing, go missing from your home or office; your car won’t start for no apparent reason; a train you must catch is canceled, delayed, or leaves early; an incorrect entry is found in your diary when you are positive you had written the right information; you take a sudden fall and could swear you were pushed; final demands keep coming for a bill you paid months ago; lights and/or lamps in your home or office are switched on and off by themselves; your answering machine turns itself on or off without you having touched it. There are many more examples, these are just a few and, if you are experiencing several of them within a similar time frame, then give serious thought to protecting yourself.

Other forms of psychic attack may manifest as sudden pains within areas of your body, or as an inability to move from the position in which you are standing, sitting or lying. You may experience a feeling of literally being pinned down by something extremely heavy and unyielding. There may also be a sense of heat or cold surrounding you, and possibly an unpleasant odor will fill your nostrils. You may hear certain noises or even a babble of voices which seem to drain all resistance out of you. At the onset of such an attack, order whatever is upon you to 'Go to the Light!' and keep repeating this phrase until you are free of this negative force. Calling upon the help of your personal Angelic Guides will also ensure the defeat of whatever is attacking you.

In past times, our ancestors were well versed in the ways of ‘doing battle’ with Evil, but today most of us have lost this wisdom along with our belief in the power of Evil, therefore, we must relearn how to be protected against the negative forces. Those individuals who have kept this knowledge, or have re-discovered an awareness of the nature of Evil, must share this information with those who have forgotten its existence. To be forewarned is to be forearmed, and this was never more true than when facing the awesome might of Evil.

The most powerful weapon with which you can fight Evil is your belief in the existence of Goodness, whether for you it is seated in religion or spirituality. Carry or wear a religious object, or a talisman which has meaning for you, such as a cross, a Goddess symbol, an ankh, or a Star-of-David. A clear quartz crystal pendant, which has been dedicated to the highest, finest and purest vibrations and tuned to protect you, is an excellent choice, if it is worn continually day and night. Placing similarly dedicated and tuned crystals around your home or office will create a safe space into which Evil cannot gain access. I have found that black obsidian is particularly effective in this way, and a piece can also be placed under your pillow at night, or held in your hand when you are feeling under attack. Multi-colored jasper will help drive out any evil attachments, such as negative elementals which have taken hold within your aura. If you are sufficiently sensitive to the other levels of existence, you may well see these elementals as dark and fluttery things when you release them from yourself or another who has sought your help. Be very sure that you firmly tell these elementals to 'Go to the Light!' once they are free and, if necessary, repeat this statement several times until you are certain they are no longer hanging around, waiting to re-attach themselves to you or another unsuspecting person. Some other minerals and substances which are considered highly protective against the negative forces are: alum, amber, boji stones, carnelian, citrine, coral, flint, fossils, garnet, gold, iron, jade, jet, lava, malachite, marble, meteorite, mother-of-pearl, onyx, peridot, salt, serpentine, silver, sulfur, tiger’s eye, and turquoise. Use any of these that are available to you to ward off the power of Evil.

Protective shapes, such as pyramids, domes, 5, 6, 7, or 8 pointed stars, hexagons, octagons etc. can be constructed on the astral and placed over rooms, homes, offices, even entire buildings. Crystals placed on the floor should be used as the physical corner stones or pattern formations for such constructions and a Divine, etheric crystal should be requested in order to form the apex of your structure and to anchor it within the higher realms. The actual building of the shape is done with the power of the mind and, if considered necessary, hand actions can be used to help build or trace the required shape. Within the confines of the structure, a sacred space has then been created. It is advisable to use this strategy for protection only on a temporary basis, and to have people remain within the structure until it is disassembled. Such structures are extremely powerful and repeated movement through the ‘walls’ of the shape can tear and damage people’s auras. However, as the builder of the structure you will not be adversely affected by passing through the boundaries of your sacred space. Removal of the structure should be given an equal amount of attention to ensure that all traces of its energy pattern are gone. Again, the power of the mind, suitable hand actions, the sound of Tibetan bowls, smudging, etc. will dissipate the energy and both your Divine and physical crystals should be given your thanks, and the latter will also need cleansing.

Certain herbs can be beneficial when putting together strategies to defend yourself. Chicory, lavender, mallow, mugwort, rosemary, sage and sweetgrass will prove to be highly protective for you. Smudge your home or office each day with smoking bundles of sage and sweetgrass, visualizing that anything which is negative is being driven from the place and being transmuted up to the Light. Grow pots of lavender, rosemary or chicory on window sills, knowing these plants will stand guard for you, or cultivate them outside in your garden together with sage and mallow to protect the area around your home. Dried mugwort, alone or with dried lavender, can be placed in little sachets and left hanging in closets or positioned in drawers, in order to stop the meddlesome elementals from hiding items of clothing or other important objects. A few drops of rosemary essential oil mixed in a base of sweet almond or safflower oil becomes a protective fluid from which a small quantity can be placed in the palms of the hands and spread daily throughout your aura. When doing this, don’t forget the areas around your feet and above your head. It is also very helpful to inhale the aroma of this fluid before working it through your aura. Each time you bathe, pour two or three drops of rosemary essential oil into the bathtub of water; this will again prove helpful. Mix one part rosemary essential oil with nine parts distilled water and pour into a mister or atomizer. Spray all of your rooms each day with this Evil-banishing liquid.

If you are familiar with the Bach Flower Remedies, then utilize the amazing properties of these flower essences. Take Walnut to protect you at all times, and Aspen, Mimulus and Rock Rose to allay the fear and terror which Evil attempts to instill in you. Holly will help clear unwanted anger and jealousy so that you can radiate the unconditional love which your Light work symbolizes. Mustard will relieve the cruel depression which comes when Evil is attacking you through your emotional level. If you have reason to believe that there are negative attachments hiding within your aura, then Crab Apple will flush them out and cleanse your subtle anatomy. Bach Rescue Remedy will help alleviate the trauma of a sudden psychic attack. Similarly, the Essential Flower Essences and Essential Gemstone Essences created by Diane Stein will prove helpful. Try Psychic Shield Essence, Amber and Purple Kunzite for protection, also Aura Essence and Moldavite for removing negative attachments.

As previously mentioned, your own personal Angelic Guides are very strong adversaries against the power of Evil. We all possess many such helpers, but we are often unaware of their existence. Meditating on their identities will give a clear understanding of who they are and also bring closer contact with them. Once you are familiar with these helpers, enlist their protection on a regular basis and always remember to thank them when it is given. Other unseen helpers and protectors are also available to you and can be reached through meditation. Animal totems are extremely protective and they are particularly powerful during the hours of darkness. The archetypal energies of gods and goddesses are another great source of assistance which is just waiting for you to tap into. Together with the Huna goddess Pele and the Sumarian goddess Inanna, I have found certain individuals of the Egyptian pantheon to be strong forces against Evil. The goddesses Hathor, Bast and Nephthys are my constant defenders; the god Anubis protects me at all levels of my existence, not just my physical one. You will need to discover through meditation which gods and goddesses are appropriate for you, and then you can regularly ask for their protection and guidance. If you are of a religious nature and are not feeling at ease with the archetypal energies of gods and goddesses, then you will find comfort and strength in the teachings of your church.

Visualization is yet another weapon with which to fight the negative forces. When you are under attack, you can envisage any and all of your unseen helpers. Perhaps your animal totem is a tiger who you can visualize as prowling protectively around you, or maybe you see Hathor shielding you with her magic mirror which reflects back all evil intentions. Be advised that you should only use reflective strategies when dealing with pure Evil, if used against others who are incarnate, then there may well be karmic consequences to your action. Every evening light candles within your home and imagine the candlelight pushing back all evil shadows. Every morning see yourself surrounded by pure, golden Light or enveloped in a purple hooded cloak, and know that Evil cannot penetrate these shields of Goodness. At times throughout the day, reinforce these visualizations, and do so once more at night just before you fall asleep.

If you feel that you or a loved one is under such a severe psychic attack that the above mentioned strategies do not relieve the situation, then seek the help of someone who is trained in battling with the negative forces. This may be a member of the clergy, or a person who has intently studied the nature of Evil and how to overcome it. Certain spiritual healers are also able to release negative attachments and remove evil influences because the healing energies, which they channel towards the afflicted person, are coming directly from the Divine and even Evil cannot withstand the purification which these energies bring.

And lastly, always remember that you are a child of the Light and that you have made a soul choice to spread that Light and Love as you journey through your physical life. Know that Evil is very much ‘alive and well’ even as we move into yet another century, and that you will be called upon to fight against it. So remain ever vigilant and do not allow Evil to interfere with your chosen path.
