Positive Thinking = Happiness
People with positive attitudes generally enjoy life more, but are they more successful in life? The answer is often "yes." Optimism is a resource for a happy, healthy and productive lifestyle. Optimists are more likely to overcome obstacles and difficulty in their efforts to improve their personal and business outcomes. For example, optimistic people generally achieve high level of success more quickly and have fewer hardships than do people who are less hopeful.

Optimists are more likely to overcome obstacles and difficulty in their efforts to improve their personal and business outcomes. For example, optimistic people generally achieve high level of success more quickly and have fewer hardships than do people who are less hopeful.
Your mind responds to your thoughts, emotions, and actions. In addition to staying fit, eating right, and managing stress, you can use the following three strategies to achieve success and happiness in your life:
Create positive expectations for health, happiness, healing and achieving success in life.
Mental and emotional expectations can influence a person’s emotional, physical, spiritual and level of accomplishments they achieve in life. The effectiveness of achieving a better quality of life depends on how much you believe in yourself. If you believe in yourself and you believe that anything is possible, you can and will succeed in life. 
If you focus on the positive things in your life, you will avoid the negative things that surround you and bring you down. Focus on negativity only results in pitying yourself. By pitying yourself, you trap yourself in a hole. This hole will restrain you and stop you in your tracks. You cannot achieve success by focusing on the negatives. Negativity causes depression, low-self esteem, and destroys any possibilities of achieving success.
A poem I wrote explains negativity well and shows you how to snap out of it quickly:
As I sit in a world of darkness
I look around to see no one
The cold wind has filled my soul
The rivers have poured inside my body
And the weight of the waters holds me back from seeing the light of day
What should I do?
I feel helpless,
Paralyzed in my own fears
And lost with no directions or roads to take
Suddenly, a felt a laser of energy bolt though my body
I yelled, “I’m so tired of feeling this way, I need help”
Suddenly, gold light appeared
And a man stood before me
You foolish man,
You choose this path the moment you chose to give up and wallow in your sorrows
I cannot help you
You need to help yourself.
There are no rivers in your soul holding you back from light of the world
The strength lies within you
Look in my eyes and tell me what you see
The lost man looked into the angels eyes and said, I see a man who gets his strength from helping others
He does not waste time focusing on useless matters
If you dig deep enough my child
You will find precious gift inside yourself
Gifts you never knew you had
Learn from others
Then help yourself
Once you helped yourself
Go out and help the world around you
Because many people feel as you do
The angel suddenly disappeared
The lost man was no longer lost
He was determined to waste no time
And he was going to use his time to help others
Just as the angel helped him
The man got up
He realized the only thing holding him down was himself
The room was no longer dark
The light of life had entered
Dig deep in yourself and lift yourself
The answer to your problems lies within
Use your gifts
For the greatest gift is the gift of giving.

Changing your expectations from negative to positive will bring happiness in your life, improve you mental, physical and emotional state of mind and help you reach the levels of success in your life that will make you happy. Here is how to make the change:
  • Stop all negative self-talk. Make positive statements that promote your recovery.
  • Send yourself a steady stream of affirmations. An affirmation is a phrase or sentence that sends strong, positive statements to you about yourself, such as "I am a capable person" or "I can achieve anything I put my mind too."
  • Visualize happiness and success. Add mental pictures that support your positive affirmations.
  • Do not feel guilty. There is no value in feeling guilty about your happiness or wanting to achieve success in your life. Yearning for a better life for yourself is the first step to the road of success. While there is a lot you have to do to achieving happiness and success, some obstacles will appear from time to time, but obstacles should not stop you, no matter what you do never give up. Success takes hard work, time and dedication. It does not happen over night. Do the best you can.
Open yourself to humor, friendship, and love.
  • Positive emotions. Positive emotions boost your self-esteem, level of happiness, health and the level of achievements to obtain in life.  Fortunately, almost anything that makes you feel good about yourself helps you stay happy, healthy and productive.
  • Laugh. A little humor makes life richer and healthier. Laughter increases creativity, reduces pain, and speeds successful living. Keep an emergency laughter kit that contains funny videotapes, jokes, cartoons, and photographs. Put it on your self where you have easy access to it.
  • Seek out friends. Friendships are vital to happy, healthy and productive life. Close unhealthy social ties help you improve your life. Negative people and bad influences will only bring you down. Make ties and friends with people who you look up too.
  • Volunteer. People who volunteer live longer, enjoy life, and achieve tremendous levels of success. The more you give in life the more you will receive than those who do not volunteer. By helping others, we help ourselves.
  • Plant a plant and pet a pet. Plants and pets can be highly therapeutic. When you care for an animal or anything living, you feel good about yourself, you feel loved and you feel a purpose in your life. Animals and plants help us feel needed.
Appeal to a higher power.
If you believe in a higher power, ask for support in your pursuit of healing (turning your negative thinking into positive thinking). Faith, prayer, and spiritual beliefs can play an important role in improving your life.
Your sense of spiritual wellness can help you overcome personal trials and things you cannot change. It can also improve your life for the future that is in store for you. If it suits you, use spiritual images in visualizations, affirmations, and expectations about your future accomplishments and your personal life.
