"A PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS?"
My Two Cents' worth!
Worth a Plugged Nickel?
"It's your Dime!
"Shave and a haircut - Two Bits!
"Fifty Cents - holding up a Dollar!"
C - NOTE - $100 Buckeroos!
SEE - Penultimately - it's ALL ABOUT MONEY!
Or - the Lack thereof ...
If this actually works, the picture will be on the left.
It is a Lionel Model Train Coal-Car, or TENDER.
Now, take out a Dollar Bill and read closely - says something about being Legal TENDER for all debts, public and private!
Yet, if you caress someone gently, you are being TENDER.
And .. you may leave a company - TENDER your Resignation!

It has been said that ‘a picture is worth a thousand words.’ Is this statement True, or False?
Think of a large successful corporation that has been around in America for many years. A long time ago they started using a simple symbol as their Logo. This symbol, or icon has something to do with Electricity. Can you name the Company yet? Not enough info?
Okay - suppose that most, if not all, of their products were either electrical appliances, or parts for same, or normal every-day household items. Got it yet? Another clue - flipping a switch on the wall, or turning and clicking a round knob - activated this product.
Aha! Eureka! Voila! - You got it, right? Something we all use, almost every day of our lives - at home, in the office - even at night, in the car - the simple device invented by none another than Thomas Alva Edison! We are told that it took many thousands of experimental failures before he finally got it - Right! He had an Idea. He tried it. It failed. He tried it again - over, and over, and over! “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again!”
The lowly light-bulb! And the Corporation’s name is …. ???
General Electric! Do you remember when this little picture was first shown on television commercials, and in print advertisements? A simple, single, solitary Light Bulb - with lines emanating from it - became the symbol or icon used to express the word - IDEA! I always felt that this advertising medium was truly creative.
The concept that when an idea pops into your head, it is like a light-bulb lights up - “Ooh - I got an Idea!” Just where does that idea come from? It originates in the brain. Some neurons give off an electrical impulse, and Bing Bam - Thank You Ma’am - an idea is born! The conscious mind somehow realizes this phenomenon, and it is almost immediately captured and stored in memory - not unlike a computer - eh wot?
Depending on the circumstances, we may actually act on the idea right away, or simply save for future recall. An idea, or a thought, is usually remembered better - through the use of repetition. We may simply repeat it several times mentally, or physically write it down on paper, a blackboard (like the teachers or Nuns made us do, in school) - or via a keyboard into our little grey boxes.
The Encarta World English Dictionary tells us that a neuron is - a cell, typically consisting of a cell body, axon, and dendrites, that transmits nerve impulses and is the basic functional unit of the nervous system. It is also called a nerve cell.
An Axon is - an extension of a nerve cell, similar in shape to a thread, that TRANSMITS impulses outward from the cell body.
A Dendrite is - a branched extension of a nerve cell (neuron) that RECEIVES electrical signals from other neurons and CONDUCTS those signals to the cell body.
It then follows that these impulses, which are electrical, and therefore contain charges - positive and negative - flow from a transmitter, to a receiver - just like the way that electric current flows from that wall switch to that light-bulb, or lamp.
Just think (ponder an idea) about this natural process for a minute. The human body and human mind does these things automatically! We all know that the most prominent chemical formula existing in the human body is H2O - Water! Sixty - Seventy - Eighty - Ninety percent or More - of the most basic combination of elements present on this Earth! And - just how do these two elements combine and stay together?
Electrical Valence! Type of Charge! Because Oxygen has a valance, or charge of Negative Two (2-) it requires Two atoms of Hydrogen which has a charge of only Plus One (1+) - to combine with only One atom of oxygen to form the compound of One Molecule of H2O - Water!
In any chemical compound, there must always be a Balance - i.e. - The total number of Plusses must always equal the total number of Minuses. This is a natural Law of Chemistry, Physics, Science - whatever! Just like any Formula, or Equation, in Mathematics - the Left Side of the Equals Sign must always be the Same as the Right Side! Otherwise - if it is out of balance, it would therefore be a False statement! Capice? Comprende Usted?
Now, let us come back to this thought process, or method of creating ideas. Many, many things can provide the impetus that sparks an idea. For instance, any of the Five Senses - Sight - Sound - Smell - Touch - Taste - may cause us to Want something.
You See a beautiful Fire-Engine Red Corvette pull alongside your yellow-school-bus colored YUGO - and think: “I WANT ONE OF THOSE!” You Hear a catchy tune on the radio, and your feet start tapping. You Smell popcorn, and your belly churns, and your mind says: “I WANT SOME! I’M HUNGRY!”
Your neck all of a sudden Feels like something is crawling on your skin, a quick glance to see a spider or a tick causes you Jump - Scream - and Wrap your Yugo around a pole! After hours of driving along that lousy Turnpike, you are Thirsty - stop and buy a hot steaming cup of coffee, but when you finally sip - Taste it - UGH! It’s burned from sitting too long - Crap!
What else, pray tell, might cause a new idea to present itself? How about Memory? That actress’s name that you could not remember last night - which perplexed you, caused your sub-conscious mind to do an all-nighter - searching files stored in the old grey matter, and now - Voila! There it is - Tallulah Bankhead! The name then leads you to the movie title, and the idea evolves - I think I’ll stop at Blockbuster to see if they have it.
Or - how about those dreaded nasty things which bombard us every waking day, ad infinitum - Commercials! TV ads - Radio ads - Posters on busses - Billboard signs along the road - Newspaper ads - Magazine ads - Millions upon millions of Stimuli - electrical impulses sent directly TO your brain, via those same five aforementioned senses! While the conscious mind may rebel, and say “Enough!” - your sub-conscious can not ignore them! Why? Subliminal Messages! BUY ME! DRINK ME! EAT ME! UNCLE SAM WANTS YOU!
Sorry, Pilgrims - but we just do not have a snowball’s chance in Hell of avoiding all of this bombardment! It’s a fact of life - those same five senses are probably always on Alert - unless, and until we are sleeping soundly, in a REM state! What is REM? We are not talking about the old cough medicine here! REM sleep is a stage that recurs several times during the night, and is marked by dreaming, Rapid Eye Movements (REM) - under closed lids, accompanied by an elevated pulse rate and brain activity. It is sometimes called Paradoxical Sleep also.
Reading and paraphrasing this long definition now gives me an IDEA! And said idea is in the form of a question. What is the possibility that Dreams are merely like the mind performing a Tape Dump - of all those freaking Sensual impulses received all day?
Let’s face it - I am but a mere layman - A DUM-DUM - or is it more aptly - DUMB-DUMB? Anyway, this is but a query, a ponderment, a wonderment - but - what if I am correct?
Most of the time, when we experience dreams, we don’t really remember them - or the details are fuzzy - jumbled - non-sensible. On those few occasions when we do remember clearly - the people present, the place, the various activities which occurred - more often than not, it actually awakens us! Usually in a state of Panic, Fear, Anger - or even LUST! Why?
Well, if you are a rich person, who can afford a Shrink - he/she may come up with all kinds of Freudian Reasons - or GUESSES! As I do not have the wherewithal to expend hard-earned money on such extravagant therapy sessions, I’ll just amble along, singing a song, and CHOOSE to believe MY IDEA! Nothing but a Natural, Self-Preserving, Automatic TAPE DUMP! Works for me!
In closing, or trying to do so, let us consider a serious malady, which is now befalling millions and millions of people - mostly Seniors - ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE. Like I, you may have read somewhere, that some kind of deposits - junk, crap, acid, whatever - is accumulating on a person’s brain, and interrupting or stopping some normally natural memory functions. Those affected most severely are called Short-Term Memory Losses.
The individual suffering with this devastating mental illness may be able to recall and repeat minute details of things they experienced Forty or Fifty Years ago - but - can not tell you what they had for breakfast - TEN MINUTES AGO! How cruel! How sad! How frustrating! How debilitating! My Mother, both older Sisters, and a couple of Aunts and Uncles - all had this when they finally died! Although most were in their seventies when they succumbed to death, many years before were sheer agony for family members.
Be that as it may - unless and until the Scientists, Doctors, and Researchers come up with an Answer of How to Clean Away this “Brain Crud” - what can we do as individuals?
One very important step is to Keep the Mind Active! We are told by many so-called experts that certain activities are helpful - Reading - Writing - Playing Games that involve Strategy, or Thinking, like: Cards - Bridge - Canasta - Poker - Pinochle - Chess - or doing various types of Puzzles - Word Search - Crosswords - and that New-Fangled Number Placement thing-a-ma-jig that I don’t like and can’t remember. Note: My “Lady Friend, Pat - accuses me of having “Some-Timers” - I can live with that!
I personally love crossword puzzles - the more difficult and challenging the better! The New York Times, and L.A. Times are my preference. I would guess that I have been doing them for nigh onto fifty years now. When well-meaning folks give me those ‘easy’ ones, bound in nice books - I usually give them away to Goodwill, or The Salvation Army, or hide them in a drawer somewhere!
Another important thing to try to keep oneself active is Exercise. Jogging, Swimming, Yoga, or even the simple, easy act of Walking can be very beneficial. Another possibility is the East Indian practice of Ayurveda. It is an ancient Hindu treatise on the Art of healing and prolonging life. One of the principles involved is the concept, or idea of Visualization - using the conscious mind to concentrate on picturing or envisioning something desired.
As I now close this Idea, or Brainchild - (an original plan or idea attributed to a single person or to a group of people) - the term Brainstorm - (a sudden exciting idea, also called brain wave) - seems to have possibly been employed - at least, I hope you THINK so!
