~Fuel~
I wake up this morning with my seven year old asking; “Mom I know we start as a seed but how do we get bigger without a mouth?” I almost fell over in my seat and had to phrase things just right or he might of gotten confused. I said; “Christian, the baby starts as a seed and the mother feeds the baby through a tube giving it nutrients to grow.” He thought that was totally cool and proceeded to ask more questions.
We started talking about fuel for cars then fuel for people. I asked him what happens when a car runs out of gas. He said; “You have to get more gas mom.” Exactly! When our bodies get run down they need a lot of water and rest. Eating the right foods is what keeps us going so we don’t get run down. Well, he just got a new computer program and decided if he ate a lot of breakfast he would have energy to play for along time. He ate two waffles, three pieces of bacon, and even wanted some of my protein bar.
We talked about how important it is to eat the good foods so we have real energy. If we eat junk food we will have energy for a little while then crash and burn. Christian is finally eating more proteins realizing he needs them to grow strong. We still have texture issues but I never force him to eat something if he gags. We are starting to break out of our food routine and try something new every week.
The discussion about how important fuel is for our bodies helped him understand how he grows into a big person. He used to eat the same foods day and night and would refuse anything else. We all need the premium fuel for our precious insides or we will get sick and tired. I also stress the importance of a vitamin supplement to replace the nutrients he is lacking in his diet. He gets an extra dose of vitamin B everyday.
Some days I skip them to see if there is a change in his personality. The vitamins make him more focused and he actually sits still. I know that sounds strange but they do make a difference in his day. If he has too much milk he is completely whacked out! It is like a serious speed high. Natural juices like Juicy Juice with no sugar are the best. I do give him milk but not too much in one day or we have a complete meltdown.
My seven year old son is definitely the healthiest is the family. He doesn’t like fried foods, burgers, or hot dogs. We did just try mini frozen tacos and he loved them. I feel like it is important now to stress different foods to Christian or he will be set in his own ways later. Talking about the fuel for our bodies helped my son understand the importance of what goes into our bodies; and how we are affected by what we eat.
