U.S. Coast Guard members at the Indiana River Coast Guard Base in Delaware recently opened their hearts (and their home) to a newly adopted shelter dog named Mr. Beefy.
This black and white bundle of canine love and joy had been cared for by the Delaware SPCA as a cruelty case for over a year, before recently being adopted into his new home.
And the lucky Mr. Beefy now has not one person, but 20 U.S. Coast Guard members to look after him and spoil him rotten. His rank from homeless shelter dog has now been upgraded to an official military dog and a U.S. Coast Guard seaman apprentice!
In a recent follow up visit, numerous staff and volunteers with the Delaware SPCA spent some time getting lots of kisses from their former resident Mr. Beefy, as they listened to stories from numerous members of the Coast Guard about how loved Mr. Beefy is now, by everyone on the base.
Mr. Beefy now enjoys a life of constant companionship and doggie bliss. He sleeps in the bed with whomever pulls overnight duty; he sprawls on the couch watching TV with Coast Guard members; and he already knows how to open the door to his favorite room—the cafeteria.
Mr. Beefy has received the best gift that a shelter dog could ever hope for—a loving, forever home—and we hope that many other dogs and cats now languishing in shelters all across America will soon be just as fortunate as Mr. Beefy this Holiday Season.
