RE: My - NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE -

7/13/2009
Beryl McMullen

Why are so many American scared of Nationalised health Insurance Plan. Find it rather silly when you say in one breath- 'all men a created equal' -In that case why aren't the the poor entitled to the same full health coverage as the rich?

BERYL - thank you for commenting!

To attempt to answer your question, a simple answer would be that the RICH are the ones at the top (like every other country) and they control EVERYTHING! Our so-called system of ‘democracy’ is a total misnomer.
It is really a ‘Republic’ - with representatives that are predominantly LAWYERS at every major level of government. As such, there is no preponderance of ‘little people’ holding the reins on a daily basis.

Would that there were more: Doctors, Nurses, Indian Chiefs, Engineers, Teachers, Technicians, White-Collar workers, Blue-Collar Workers - et cetera actually HOLDING OFFICE!

While we do have many powerful and rich UNIONS over here, unlike your Parliament, there is NO LABOR PARTY! Perhaps this is also a misnomer?

The more complex answer is that the masses over here BELIEVE the propaganda, the BULL-CRAP dispensed hourly by the controlled Media!

I personally thought that Michael Moore’s documentary “SICKO” was tremendous - but millions of the ‘brain-washed’ here don’t LIKE him, and won’t even have open minds, to even WATCH the film - then make up their own minds about its accuracy and possible TRUTH!

“What Fools these Mortals be!”

Peace - Tom.

What is frightening about your article, Mr. Hyland, is that I have had similar experiences with all areas of contention. You have written a manifesto that should be shouted from all rooftops during the next elections.

Your provocative article reminds me of the wisdom of an adage used constantly by my ninety-five year old grandmother: An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of B xxx## S!

The Insurance Industry as a whole, has continued to be one of the Wealthiest ones in the entire world. The Lobbying Power and the attributable result of it has been ‘BUYING OFF’ Congress for all these many years.

How so very true - our esteemed 'leaders' get Free, Total Coverage, Health Insurance, for Life. They also get a Full Pension, for Life, even if they only serve one term.

How many American citizens, who elect them, get the same? NONE.

I hope you get to go to Washington, and I hope you give 'em, HELL.

In 2002 I took a month in Florida from a (then) freezing Scandinavia. Walking on the beach I was unlucky to step over a rusted box's lid buried in the beach's sand making a deep cut that needed two of those metal stitches and a shot of anti-tetanus performed by a certified doctor, a wannabe doctor and a nurse using exclusively one of those full equipped ER rooms when I could had been dealt in the parking lot without so much fuss. The cost? 1.672,87 U$S for less than fifteen minutes walk-in walk-out.

National Health Insurance...are them kidding me?

RE: BERYL McMULLEN’s - Childhood Evacuation WWII -

BERYL - Thank you for sharing your deep feelings in this story.

Americans, who never experienced such atrocities, have no concept of what British children had to endure. This lack of similar experience bars one from feeling any deep empathy.

In my own case, having been born 8/25/1940 - I was too little to understand anything that was going on in the world at the time. When the war ended in 1945, people were celebrating, having "Block Parties" and literally 'dancing in the streets.' But I didn't really know WHY! Accordingly, it is hard to even comprehend what children in Europe and Japan were living through - such a traumatic experience is unfathomable to us.

While the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor was horrendous, it was not on mainland soil. This is why the 9-11 tragedy came as such a devastating shock. Although heinous in nature, this terrorist act did not cause national panic - quite to the contrary, it UNIFIED US.

It was really a "wake-up call" that removed much of our nonchalance, and prompted a greater level of both awareness and security needs.

I CAN ONLY PRAY THAT 'GREEDY LEADERS' EVERYWHERE ---

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE ROSES!

Peace - Tom.

RE: MR ED’S - Veteran Chronicles # 180 -

ED - I am sick and tired of hearing about the CROOKED RAT-BASTARD CONGRESSIONAL 'RETARDS' - DELAYING TACTICS.

Here is my plan -

1. ASSUME all claims are deserved - start mailing Disability checks immediately - if at some later date, if a claim is found to be undeserving AND PROVEN SO - then simply stop that individual Vet's payment.

2. ISSUE A FEDERAL MANDATE - ANY ANY ALL VETERANS CAN SEEK HEALTHCARE AT ANY HOSPITAL OR PSYCHIATRIST IN THE U.S. - claims then all get forwarded to the V.A. - THEN pressure will be exerted on the V.A. by said institutions for payment - not by the poor unfortunate individual Vets.

3. NON-ACTION and LIP SERVICE IS ALL THE 'GOVERNMENT' KNOWS! - EVERY MEMBER OF EVERY ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE ORGANIZATION SHOULD GET INVOLVED BY SENDING LETTERS AND MAKING PHONE CALLS TO BOTH OBAMA AND CONGRESS -
WHY? Because they will be subject to the same, or even WORSE BACKLOG, when it is their turn to come home!

4. CITIZENS FOR VETERANS - SHOULD DO THE SAME THING! WE THE PEOPLE - NEED TO DELUGE THE WHITE HOUSE AND CAPITOL HILL WITH SO MUCH MAIL THAT THE U.S, POST OFFICE GETS SO BOGGED DOWN THAT THEY HAVE TO HIRE MORE CARRIERS! THIS - WOULD CERTAINLY CREATE MORE JOBS, WOULDN'T IT?

5. BULL-SHIT IS BULL-SHIT - and by any other name, IT DOTH NOT SMELL SO SWEET!

To me this is just a silly argument. The author seems to suggest we stop electing Democrats and Republicans and start electing representatives from the Green (Good Lord, could you imagine the problems we’d have to deal with if we put those people in charge of the FDA?) and Independent (who ever they are) parties to office instead. In my opinion, he has completely missed the point.

As long as we allow the government to get involved in areas of our lives where they have no business to begin with, and continue to elect people for the specific purpose of “taking better care of us” we will continue to have more and more corruption and less and less freedom no matter what "party" we elect.

The answer isn’t electing people to “take care of us”, but to elect people who will leave us alone. The answer is to take back our freedom and independence and begin to, once again, take care of ourselves. We’ve got to stop relying on the government (at the federal level, anyway) and return to the day when we took responsibility for our own well being. It’s called FREEDOM.

Paul

DEAR PAUL -

While I certainly appreciate your taking the time to comment, some might regard your statements as either ‘drawing a red herring’ across the trail -
or even an attempt at a ‘straw man’ argument or theory.

From WIKIPEDIA -

This article is about the logical fallacy. For other uses, see Straw man (disambiguation).
"Man of straw" redirects here. For the novel Man of Straw by Heinrich Mann, see Der Untertan.

A straw man argument is an informal fallacy based on misrepresentation of an opponent's position.[1] To "attack a straw man" is to create the illusion of having refuted a proposition by substituting a superficially similar proposition (the "straw man"), and refuting it, without ever having actually refuted the original position.[1] [2]

If anyone ‘missed the point’ it was you! Blind devotion to either of the embedded parties is WHAT has gotten us where we are!

Your statements indicate that you probably never took the time to investigate either the Candidates, or the Platforms, of the Independent and Green Parties prior to the last Presidential election. I did. In fact, I cast my vote for a Black Woman, who did not have a ‘snowball’s chance in hell’ of winning.
I voted my Conscience - and - I WOULD DO IT AGAIN!

My vote was AGAINST BOTH McCAIN and OBAMA - The proverbial “Lesser of Two Evils’ - spoon-fed to the American public, by the Corporate Puppeteers - just as they have continually done for almost 70 years! Accordingly, you might call me a ‘fool’ who ‘threw his vote away.’

"Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost." --
John Quincy Adams.

Without wishing you any ill will, I must beg a question - is there any chance that you are employed by a Lobbying Firm?

Peace - Tom.

For everyone’s Edification, please read the following - THEN, tell me that Elections are NOT BOUGHT!

Expense summary
According to required campaign filings as reported by the Federal Election Commission (FEC), a total of 148 candidates for all parties raised a collective total of $1,644,712,232 and spent $1,601,104,696 for the primary and general campaigns combined through November 24, 2008. The amounts raised and spent by the major candidates, according to the same source, were as follows:
Candidate (Party) Amount raised Amount spent Votes Average spent per vote
Barack Obama (D) $532,946,511 $513,557,218 69,498,215 $7.39
John McCain (R) $379,006,485 $346,666,422 59,948,240 $5.78

Good points and an especially good one to state that your Country is in fact a Republic which cheers the rugged individualism which makes some rich and others poor. Canada is considered to be a Confederacy, in other words it is a Country made up of peoples who work for the betterment of the Nation and all of its peoples. Well, more or less, depending upon how rich you are. Our national health plan is suffering but not because we provide health care to the poor. NO, it is because the administration has become too large to support ITSELF, or THEMSELVES and so we have wait lists for some interventions, and we have redundant tests which have to come first before the right intervention may be prescribed, (insurance companies insist upon this.) It is fixable and I hope that if your Country opts for this you can do it better. I remain doubtful however.
