My life as an author

There have been many expressive moments in my life. These moments I cherish, for they have magic value and I will never forget their importance.

My life as an author began many, many years ago after returning home from the cold office of a psychoanalyst. There had been too many abusive episodes from males whom I worked for and one I married, the scars I wear today. The youthful years of my young womanhood turned ugly and cold hearted.

For me, I was going to graduate high school and get a job. I did both. The diploma afforded me a good job, the good job afforded me a custom-ordered expensive sports car I designed exterior and interior, instructed the car salesman to instruct the car manufacturer to specially make up this car for me. They did and it arrived nine months later on a covered train car, because kids often stand on bridges and throw rocks at the freight. I paid extra to have my custom car shipped in a covered train car from the factory many states away to assure it arrived in mint condition. It did.

The point is, my materialism in those years had nothing of spiritual value to teach me or even to get me to the next phase of life. After years of living materially, one day, something in me snapped. I left my long-term marriage, caught a plane back to my hometown, and began my healing process. That process brought forth an agreeable change in my life. I began living with wolves and raising wolves and giving wolf school to other damaged women, and the secret has remained for years, the Stone Creek Woman secret, the one that I have been asked if I am Stone Creek Woman, the one who leads women across frontiers to get themselves back into the primal element of life in an undiluted, natural environment. The secret remains.

The turning point for me, the day that I would become healed and Whole, was the day in this picture, when I saw something. I took this picture of a very special wolf cub of mine. Things began to take shape. I knew that I was healed and Whole when I saw through the viewfinder that this wolf cub's markings on its face were the same diamond designs on the Indian print blanket. Spirit had entered my rite of passage. My awareness to such detail was the healing balm of wisdom through the process of recognizing an animal of the wild's markings to that of a design on the Native blanket that we've seen for many years, some of us for centuries.

Nine months to make a sports car has very little value compared to the twenty years that I have been in the company of wolves, and that journey is nearly over. I've traveled many more miles with these wolves than I ever did in that custom sports car.

I've seen a lot of things come and go. I've seen sadness and I've seen joy. I've seen things that I never should have seen, but then I've seen things most have never seen. I'm a lucky woman. I've shared my wisdom with others and I've been graded by others, some low marks, some high marks, and I've learned through the wolves how to mark territory. It shows in my writing and it shows in my personality. I've learned how to read women and wolves, both species a challenge. Some are playful, some are embedded in the soul. One I am helping heal from a tragedy that took her mother away. And so the criticism doesn't bother me from others.

The collapse of ambition sat in the seat beside me in that sports car. It's truly amazing how ambition can be revived through the eyes of nature. Gifted women can be so willing to give up on themselves. There's a high price for squelching ambition. I send this article out for encouragement. You have to take risks to grow...

And no, I did not participate in bio-feedback hooked up to wires as my psychoanalyst suggested; my feedback came from my wolves...

It's amazing how you write. To be able to put yourself and the essence of your life into a brief, so-well spoken article as this. Most writers would be all over the place and page. And "Stone Creek Woman" was the one I originally had wanted to read, but you hadn't published that a year ago or so. There's a lot of you in TBSOT, and it's one creative, fantastic novel, even including the lingo you've invented for it, but in January I may be able to get SCW. I'd love to read about your years raising these wolves. Such a crime what man is doing to that species now. - and I will write a review for the Oar Traveler, I just can't seem to put words together lately...
Definitely looking forward to the next novel.

Sage, I think all of us lives our lives like chapters in a book. Each chapter's end gives us a new chapter to begin again. I think the hardest thing for me was beginning my life without my mom when she passed. I have to believe she is with me in spirit.

You are so right about gifted women giving up on themselves. We
worry too much about others and making them happy. The sad thing is
we can't make anyone happy. Happiness comes from within. I pray you
are happy now knowing you've had it all and still have so much to give in your writing for others.

Happy New Year's

I've often felt that the spiritual and healing parts of you were nature/spiritually born. Just wasn't sure it was from wolves but I can see it now. My own father carried the spirit of the wolf with him. He said it was the Red Wolf. I recalled when dad died a wolf ran across six lanes of interstate in front of my car...or was it the spirit? It was the spirit of the Red Wolf come to escort my father and to tell me he was where he could run with them.
You are beautiful inside and out. You are very much appreciated by this woman.
Blessings and love,

There is just so much I could say about what you have shared.
The heartbreak of abuse in such numbers I am left numb.
Every story breaks my heart.
Finding something special in the world of wolves is so fantastic and amazing.
I knew a wolf woman who described her first encounter with a wolf as being struck by lightening.
I've been licked- a small wolf in a special sharing of their world.
I am so grateful you were led to such magnificent beings.

All roads are learning curves and eventually define who we are. I have faced many hardships in my past but I look back to look ahead and for each tragedy I find a poetry, my books they would be nothing without the experiences that made me and it sounds like you are the same.

This is an impressionable post Sage, I could really delve into...
they can be a constructive tool, (depends where they come from of course)
some are so utterly productive & genuine in their essence
of wisdoms to teach & grow offering esteems of PMA
(positive mental attitude) that everyone benefits in balance
and then there are those criticisms which actually show ignorance,
arrogance or the rampant ego run amuck…I am not sure what they are...
would I value a professional critic? Hell Yes!
The sources I say!!! Yes...always consider the sources.
Ignorance simply put is a lack of knowledge, it can be unnerving at times. I am interested to know...

You and I are sisters in many paths knowing an array of abuse.
Mine started with being sexually molested in childhood & oddly
my mother's violent death was my salvation form them frightful pervs.
The violences, the things I too have been witness too & also experienced like you have are utterly horrid. The brain always seeks resolve to heal & mend…and it will recover as you know you have.
Life offers us beauty despite it all, I see it every day.

My most recent endeavors to healing an array of traumas have been through EMDR therapy. It is amazing & organic.
I started this back in April 2009 & it has been up hill all the way…

Sage this memoir deeply touched my soul. Thank you so much for sharing it. I suppose epiphanies come in different forms and places but to the honest hearted, epiphanies always arrive. Thank you for sharing one of yours with us.

Okay, now I know part of the story. The rest I don't need to know. From the moment I first became aware of Sage Sweetwater Firebrand Lesbian Novelist I knew there was deep stirring within your soul. As I continued to follow your writing I also understood that I was in the company of something so spiritual it belied my understanding of it, for I am not that spiritual a person, at least on the surface. Your walk with the wolves is on such a spiritual plane that most of us have no concept of. I certainly cannot say that I have, but what I can say, my friend, is that I feel a great honor to be called Sage Sweetwater Firebrand Lesbian Novelist's friend . . .

What a gorgeous wolf and write. Empowerment and satisfaction comes from Nature (and Creation); man made material objects fall apart over time. Well done, Sage, enjoyed reading this very much.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

I had a half chow/half wolf. Sultan. Best pet I ever had. Smart? Oh, my, yes.
