A thought on how the world views Believers in the Body of Christ.

Salt & Light

“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thence forth good for nothing, but to be case out, and to be trodden under the foot of men.” (Matthew 5: 13 KJV). In ancient times, salt was a precious commodity for civilization. It was a highly valued item of trade. Even the Roman Empire sometimes paid their soldiers with salt. Salt was precious because of the various uses that met the needs of various cultures. It was used as a preservative, it added flavor, melted ice, and purified flesh for the healing of wounds.

Are we, the Body of Christ, meeting the needs of the world? Have we lost our strength and quality to be used as a preservative to keep the rotten darkness from increasing? Observing the current conditions, we have failed to preserve society from the constant decline into moral decadence. Let me tell you why you are here. You're here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You've lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage.” (Matthew 5: 13, The Message).

Where is the flavor of the Holy Spirit? The addition of salt changes the flavor as well as chemical structure. Are we so saturated with the Holy Spirit to the point that we can change and charge atmospheric conditions? As we work, will the salt heal anyone that comes in contact with your shadow?

Salt was at some points difficult to obtain. The mining process required digging to a depth in the earth that had not yet been explored. Ancient Chinese boiled salt water from the ocean until the evaporation process was complete, leaving on the valuable crystals.

The element of salt has not left the earth. It is still being used and performing many functions. The view of the world is to trample over the Believer with conception of the idea that we do not have the power to meet our purpose for existence. We must be “steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, for as much as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” (I Cor. 15:58).

Do not forget the position of authority. We have been given the power and authority to subdue, and have to dominion to reverse the system of the enemy. The enemy has taken the position of “prince of the power of the air,” because of trickery in the Garden of Eden. (Ephesians 2:1).  But we who have been born again by the precious blood of Jesus, are “raised up together with Him and made to sit down together (giving us joint seating with Him) in the heavenly sphere (by virtue of our being) in Christ Jesus The Messiah, The Anointed One).” (Ephesians 2:6 AMP).

The world’s view of the Believer is one of mixture. Exposure to world elements contaminates us causing a loss of effectiveness. Some refuse the purification and healing process that is necessary. The process is working in reverse and we ourselves need purification like never before. The result is no distinguishing characteristic from the world.

An example is one of our behavior is certain situations.  One scenario is a great revival at a church where many Believers and a few unbelievers who are just watching and seeking. The anointing is powerful and the manifestation of the gifts is present. Many are speaking in tongues and the weight of the glory has many fallen under the power.  Fast forward to when the service is over and people are in the parking lot. The same unbelievers are passing by and hear one of the Believers speaking very harshly and negatively to another Believer. They marvel and whisper to one another about what they see now and what happened in the service. They question the authenticity of how they can speak in tongues one minute and speak so harshly that the next. The do not understand why the power of God is not still on them. The analogy is made to this scene of jump rope Christians, jumping double dutch. They jump in and out of the spirit with no notable effect of change. Is this the witness that we want to be seen? We are to carry the scars that have been healed by the blood of Jesus, not afflict them on one another in the Body of Christ.

Breaking news flash for the Body of Christ. You are being watched and under the microscope by the world. Many are curious to see what is real about you. . “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16). They are looking for signs, wonders, and notable miracles that cannot be denied. They want to see the evidence that you have been with Jesus.

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John 1:12). As Sons of God, we have not properly represented our Father. Being Sons of God we should have our Father’s DNA. The light that is in Him should be in us burning brightly. It is time to “arise, shine, for the light is come and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.” (Isaiah 61: 1).

Have you noticed that the majority of the movies and television shows are formatted for the youth and focused on the supernatural? Have we failed to notice that world is seeking signs of darkness? The Lord is ready to work with us to confirm His word with signs following. (Mark 16: 20). Where the truth and the light in us?

“For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God?”

(I Peter 4: 17).

Hi Becky. Religion is like salt - too much of it and you want to spit it out. Faith is fine but I have a problem with any faith that insists they are the ONLY way to God. I am tending toward the Dalai Lama's position. "My religion is kindness" Faith is something greater is important for many people but we must accept diversity and that other paths to God-ness are valid. My novel, Reflections from Shadow, is in part inspired by my own story of my struggles with the fundamental evangelism of my youth. For many years I was essentially agnostic, but now am believing in SOMETHING and following a personal journey through study and meditation. All the best, Malcolm
