Yesterday one we loved was put to rest...
It's hard to believe she is gone, she died a week ago, nine minutes after midnight ( Friday Morning) Her body was put to rest yesterday. She was eighty nine, a Mother, a widow, a sister, a daughter, a grandmother, and a great grandmother. She was eighty nine, and a beautiful women all around. She was one of thirteen surviving children (some died in childhood) . She was the strong arm of this family. She was Nonna.
At a time when women rarely finished highschool she did, and was fluent in five languages, Italian, French, Latin, Spanish and English, she raised children, foster children and step children, she was Nonna.
She was Italian American her Mom had imigrated from Italy with three dollars in her pocket when she was twelve she married when she was thirteen.
Nonna was Roman Catholic, but she let us discover religion for ourself, and taught us to pray. She was a woman of Faith, a woman of strength, she brought us together even when it felt we were drifting apart. Even in her death she is drawing us together.
Yesterday we burried one we love, but we have her memories....
