“Thoughts are like butterflies. They fly away if you don’t catch them…”

A sentence written down is a thought captured. A thought captured is like a butterfly pinned in a display cabinet. This is a collection of “Butterflies” in a display cabinet… Just let your eyes and mind wonder over them… you may just catch one…

Over a number of years I have been jotting down "thoughts" as they occurred to me.

I do not look upon them as "pieces of wisdom", but rather as thoughts dragged up from the "Collective Conscious".

Although I jotted them down as they occurred to me in my own words and even have the audacity to put a "copy right" note at the end, in all honesty, I cannot claim that every single thought was an "original". Snippets of "wisdom" do indeed originate from the "Collective Conscious", which one tends to absorb into the "individual subconscious", to regurgitate as ad hoc witticism, thought, cynicism or whatever. There is nothing new under the sun… so they say…

I present them here as such… without any particular order other than chronological. You will find some of them serious, some of them entertaining, whilst others you may find downright flippant. They are all presented here “naked”, without any further comment or apology…

(Some of these “thoughts” I converted into short poems/haiku over the years and posted here at AD earlier. Some others are still to be posted…)

Thoughts are like butterflies. They fly away if you don’t catch them…

On the other hand a sentence written down is a thought captured. A thought captured is like a butterfly pinned in a display cabinet. Pretty or interesting…. but dead….

Our past contains all our mistakes; our future contains all our hopes. In the present in one hand we hold the seeds of future mistakes, whilst in the other we hold the seeds of future’s fulfilment. But life can only be lived in the present.

Worry will not change anything about the future. Concern and reasoned thinking can.

The wise man takes counsel with humility; only the fool walks with pride.

Every creature is born with a suspended death sentence; therefore life could be regarded as a sexually transmitted terminal disease.

But is death really the end of it all?....

Cultivate your mind and soul. Make it pure and rich in knowledge and love.

Then wear your soul in your eyes and in your smile. It will be the only jewel or ornament you need. It will make you more beautiful and richer than would a thousand rubies or diamonds.

Learn to laugh a lot.... Those who smile most have no time to hate or to get upset by adversity.

Merely to love your children is not enough.

You should love them enough to allow them to hate you if and when they wish.

I came to regard my life as a joke.... my death as a laugh at the end....

Only fools believe that they are wise. A wise man accepts to be no more than a blundering fool...

Lies and false concepts are usually communicated in an elaborate manner. The truth can be expressed in a few well chosen words.

If you want to look for “GOD” high in the heavens, amongst the stars - no doubt if you look hard - you will find  Him.

But you could just as easily find him amongst the dust.....

Every child born is a guest. Parents have no “right of ownership”, only the privileges and duties of good hosts.

That I should make mistakes is understandable. I am only human..... but it seems that even God makes mistakes sometime.

I am the living proof of that.......

Foolishness is the ability to talk.

Cleverness is the ability to act.

Wisdom is the ability to listen.

Stupidity is the ability to talk and act as if wise.... (this is the hallmark of politicians)

Extreme stupidity is the ability to listen to falsehoods, believe, than talk and act upon them. (this is the hallmark of the electorate.)

Pleasure is:  being;  and being aware of it....

All forms of addiction are undesirable.

Even addiction to life proves fatal in the end.

I am tough. I can bear the pain of the whole world like a man. With stiff upper lip.

I only crumble like a baby, when it comes to bearing my own....

If only I could look forward with hindsight... my life could be almost perfect.

At the age of 60 I reached the stage where I look to the future over my shoulder.

A major problem with human life is that when we are young we do not like to think that we will be old one day.

When we are old, we tend to forget that we too were young once.

Oddly, when a man loses his head he still has the ability to find his penis.

Human inventiveness is limitless… especially when it comes to justifying one’s own failures…

****

Sexual equality - I suspect - is a feminine invention in order to disguise the effective superiority of the “weaker sex."

It is comparatively easy and simple for a female to enjoy - or not to enjoy - sex several times in quick succession. All she has to do is to lie back...  She can even fake an orgasm as often as she likes.

But could a male fake an erection even once?!?!

There is no art without imitation. There is no imitation without art either.

The wise man said: “I think

                                                It’s only human to err.”

                                                Than added with a wink:

                                                “But it’s unacceptable to her".

Marriage - from the male’s point of view - could be regarded as “penal servitude."

I can safely say that there was only one mistake in my life that had any lasting effect on it.... I was born.

Others too have paid with their lives for the same mistake...

These days women are quick with the condomnation of a male... before putting him on trial....

I could never understand why the act of copulation is described as “love-making."

Love is not made... it is felt.... and if it has to be expressed in action, it certainly does not have to produce either perspiration or orgasm.

The only purpose in life is to live

and not to talk about love, but to give.

Our most precious possession in this life is life itself. One has no right either to take or give it away wantonly.

The wisdom of life is apparent to those who live it to the full and learn its lessons...

To appreciate life’s pleasures you need the experience of pain as well.

The only advantage of old age is that one has a vast amount of experience, gathered with every passing year.

The disadvantage is that it is too damned late to use that experience constructively.

Don’t cry over spilt milk. Your tears would only increase the volume of spillage, making your work of clearing up the mess more difficult.

Walk on the face of this Mother-Earth with care and consideration. Intend not to disturb a blade of grass, to leave not even a footprint behind.

Change nothing, for you cannot improve perfection and it’s a sin to blemish it.

In truth... life’s just a big joke....

If you asked me how I feel about the future I would say that I am cautiously pessimistic.

That way I can’t get disappointed...

Inside every human heart there is at least one moment of absolute beauty. The secret of happiness is to find that moment, grasp it, recognise it and hang on to it as long as humanly possible.
