FAMILY LAW
I have a very difficult time believing that this country’s family law system is this archaic? The system that is or was put in place to protect the innocent has completely let them down. A country that prides itself on one the best standard of living in the world fails when it comes to protect the innocent and the providers for those innocent ones. It has made victims out of honest hard working people and victimized others, and for some it has shown them that if you have money and a good lawyer you can get away with just about anything. Should a woman who is entirely capable of working and making a living for herself, be granted support from her ex? Granted there are certain situations that warrant that support, but this should not be the rule, and should not be expected for the rest of her life, as it is in quite a lot of cases.
Why is it that a mother who spends most of or the better part of her life in a home providing for her partner and kids, needs to go and find one some times two different jobs just to make ends meet, when that relationship breaks down, and the man walks away with everything and no responsibilities. And why is it that some women are allowed to take advantage of a flawed system that has so many loopholes. Because the law claims that if you co-exist in a relationship for ‘X’ amount of time, and the relationship is now over for whatever reason, so should his life. How can a woman claims that she has moved on with her life, when her ex is still supporting her. There should be a difference if there were children involved. I guess I just misunderstood the meaning of pride and independence.
What is a man if he’s not working? Sometimes there are unforeseen circumstances that will cause him to miss a payment. Immediately letters of a threatening tone start to arrive, your driver’s licence will be taken away and any other professional papers that he may have will be revoked, along with your passport…as if you were going to leave the country… Ironically these items or at least the driver’s licence is what he needs to be game fully employed. His means for living has been taken away; his spirit has been broken, and he now feels less of a man now that he has nothing. Yet he is still required him to make the payments. That really makes a lot of sense. In most cases his wages are garnished, and now he has to turn to others for help. Can his life be anymore embarrassing? Here is a system that categorizes or labels men that misses their payments, as “DEADBEATS” Isn’t that wonderful. This system also considers most men and fathers to be second-class and in some cases they are hostages, they lose their visitation or rights to their kids, never mind trying to leave the province or country.
O CANADA! What a country you are. Don’t get me wrong, not all women are the same, and neither are all men. There should be a system in place where each situation is looked at separately and individually instead of painting all men that pay support with the same brush. We are NOT all DEADBEATS!!
