Here is a segment of author A.M. Baker-Engel's 4th book.
He could see from the Star Chart there was nothing else they could do! This planet was the only planet near them and they must make planetside or they could face a space death! ‘OH, Kee! What have we done to ourselves?’ “Are you sure about the name?” He held a fervent prayer to The Gods she was wrong!
In a small voice, her words returned, “I'm sure.”
That is it, we have to take what we got, there is simply no other choice! “OK, there is nothing for it, we must land! Let’s get control of ourselves, we must do what we must do! You take the helm again. I'm going to remove that shelf from above the Kacatan horns, just in case, so their heads have plenty of moving room. This will not be a safe landing, not safe by far! I'll explain to them what they must do. As soon as we are close enough, do a close-up scan of GomorrhaDagaha and look for an unpopulated area without a Spacestation watch. We'll have to sneak in as best as we can. We have no choice!” Essk hit his strap release and left the CC at a dead run!
Kee hit the close-up scanner switch.
Scrilki and Kebawh taken care of, re-strapping himself in the CC seat, Essk hit the close-up switch for his screen and retook the helm. “What have you found?” He asked, searching a duplicate of the map on her screen.
“If at all possible we should swing far out and around the planet to get a scan of the dark side. We can but hope it is not as populated as the side toward us.” Her eyes, though red from tears of regret, never left the screen, calling on any and all knowledge and gifts she had, she had quickly regained her self-control.
Realigning their course Essk flipped on the transmogrifying switch. Better to enter this area unseen, as undetected as possible. The transmogrifying device would make the shuttle, to any who looked in its direction, appear as nothing but a slight transparent shimmer. “We're far enough out and it should not cause any more stress on the shuttle if we slung-shot in a wide slow arc and get a view of the dark side.”
The GomorrhaDagahanese of his parent's home world were known well for their cruelty and slave compounds, slaves gained from conquered planets. Not to mention the grisly labs they sent slaves and their own kind into. He shuttered to think the GomorrhaDagahanese on that planet were actually his kind, his parent’s birth world! Well, maybe they were of the same race, but not with the same thoughts and feelings of his kind back on Yeskacatan, no way!
Viewing the dark side of the planet they found it illuminated by two moons that hung in space. The moons were in the right position to aid their landing, they hung out in space and in full light of the central star of the system.
Scanning carefully, Keeke saw the planet's terrain clearly. She enlarged the area that looked the best possible location to land.
Nestled close to a small mountain range was a small level plateau. There were no clusters of population within miles of the plateau. Close search of near-space showed there was not one Spacestation close to the potential landing site.
“Essk, if we retain a good speed we could flash into the stratosphere, get into the lower atmosphere and make a long low sweep toward that plateau. We possibly would appear as a meteor and could land on that small plateau I have in my cross hairs on my screen.” She tapped the screen to emphasize her statement.
He entered the coordinates for the dark side of GomorrhaDagaha Kee sent to his screen, realigned and realigned as the CC spit information across his screen.
Their Deep Space Shuttle shuttered as it was grasped by the planet's gravity.
Suddenly!!! The CC started flashing red pulsating words, a loud beep accompanied the pulsing. REDUCE AIR SPEED, REDUCE AIR SPEED! YOUR TRAJECTORY WILL CAUSE A CRASH IF YOU DO NOT REDUCE AIR SPEED! REDUCE AIR SPEED, REDUCE AIR SPEED! YOUR TRAJECTORY WILL CAUSE A CRASH IF YOU DO NOT REDUCE AIR SPEED!
EsskRhá's hands were flying over the CC panels. 'If we can just get close enough before we fall apart!'
