For those of you who said it would NEVER last--you were right. Star Jones has filed for a divorce from her husband of three years, Al Reynolds. The papers were filed in a New York court last month.
In a statement to Entertainment Tonight, the baby boomer diva said, "The dissolution of a marriage is a difficult time in anyone's life that requires privacy with one's thoughts. I have committed myself to handling this situation with dignity and grace and look forward to emerging from this period as a stronger and wiser woman."
"Is there anyone reading this who thought it would last? Back in 2006, the New York Post reported that Star had been telling friends she was "heartbroken" because her marriage was falling apart. The paper quoted an unnamed source as saying, "Star has resigned herself to the fact that they're not going to spend the rest of their lives together."
However, Reynolds's rep insisted to PEOPLE that there was no truth to the divorce rumors.
This brings me to a point. Women who reach middle age shouldn't be so eager to get married that they end up making the wrong choice. What's more important---your biological clock or your happily-ever-after? Isn't it better to be alone and HAPPY---than to be married and miserable?
Sadly, too many sisters feel the need to be married by a certain age and some of them are even pressured by family and friends to take that trip down the aisle---and I do mean "trip!"
My advice to Star and every other desperate woman out there is to pick up a copy of my book, Whatever! A Baby Boomer's Journey Into Middle Age and read chapter two: "Lordy, Lordy, Are there any good men still left over 40"?
Life is too short to waste it on frivilous things and people.
