Did you ever at one point in your life, ask yourself why we only have 24 hours in a day? Perhaps, we can blame someone up there for not being so generous in giving us time in a day.
There are so many things to finish in a day, task deadlines to beat, household chores to carry out, and meetings to attend to and we have so little time. Thus, for us to draw close to all the activities that we need to attend to, we are likely to deprive ourselves of our personal time, that is, our sleeping time gets smaller, we limit our time with our friends, families, and even outdoor activities. Our spritual obligations become less essential. We want to accomplish so many things in a day and we yearn for for more time. For this reason, we sometimes carry out incorrect prioritization. We worry about losing a carreer if we do not finish our task on time. We are intoxicated with kudos and prestige that we want to achieve and so we designate more time for them. What about the other important things in our life? Don’t we care about our family, friends and health? We usually take them for granted because we assume that these people will understand us. Perhaps, they do, but for how long?
What comes next is the realization. As we become cognizant of the reality, it is late already to realize that we do not have friends anymore and our family is not close as before and worst of all, we transformed into a flabby monster because we forgot to exercise and burn our calories! My point is, recognition, achievements, certificates or carreers are not always the essential things in this life. At times, those little things that we tend to forget are the big and pricelesss ones that we should have in our life.
It is heartbreaking when we can’t find someone to play with us our favorite sports because friends are nowhere to find. We were not around when friends needed us to listen to their problems. Our little prince and princess have grown up so fast and don’t want to stay in our palace anymore. We were left in poignant grief because we failed to enjoy our kids while we can still lift them up and put them around our shoulders and play with them. Our parent’s ears can hardly hear us now when we pronounce how much we love them. Sad to say that our spouse became numb to our touch and affection. We have forgotten to say a little prayer even for a couple of minutes. We deliberately neglected all of these - these essential parts of our life – in favor of the recognition that we implore from the society as well as for the riches or material things this world can give. But think again, let’s ask ourselves of what really are the true riches that we can treasure forever in our life? What should be our priorities in a 24 hour day? We need to balance everything and set our priorities correctly. This way, we'd be able to accomplish things without sacrificing the other.
We all have our realization at the end of the day. I just hope that when we go to bed at night, we are satisfied and in high spirits for all the things that we have gone through in a day. Then maybe we do not need to blame someone again, why we only have 24 hours a day.
