Why Study the Tarot?

The Tarot deck is a book of wisdom passed down from the ancestors of our human race; to their grandchildren and grandchildren’s grandchildren. If read properly it would explain the nature of the Universe and the patterns of human existence. If followed it would help us and the future generations deal with earthly life in a good way.

It has become the tool of fortune tellers and fortune hunter’s, but a few are graced with the understanding of its true nature. Many a life has been turned around by one curious reading that stopped the querrant in their tracks and forced them to re-examine the reality they had been taught was true , by those who wished to have power over them. These people come in kinds of disguises by the way; from those who would tell you that the only way to optimum health physically, emotionally and psychologically is though them; to those who would have you believe that the only way for you to have spiritual enlightenments are though their experience and their belief structures.

The Tarot teaches us that we have power; over no one, but ourselves.

Tarot is the oldest form of psychology and sociology that is in existence today. However, it goes further than that. It is a spiritual guide as well. Modern forms of self analysis and examination often do not include the spiritual aspect of life. As human beings we are made up of four basic components: our spiritual selves, our psychological selves, our emotional selves and our physical selves. When we suffer on a physical level with physical aliments, the root causes of these dis-eases are stressors. Stress weakens our immune systems: then when a traveling virus or bacteria passes though us, or an organ fails to operate properly and slows down, the immune system is unable to react to its fullest potential and we get sick.

When the root cause of the stress originates on one of the higher levels of our psyche; we can fix the physical body all we want, and that includes alternative energy healing, but the stressor still remains and will once again will present itself in a physical form, until we heal ourselves on the other levels first. Just a note here an alternate energy healing; I do not want anyone to think that I am saying that this type of approach to health is not good. I believe that it is incredible what can be done on a sub atomic level. What I am saying is that if the original stressor remains and is not dealt with, the dis-ease will return; if not in its original form, then in another. We are here on this planet and in this physical life to learn, to explore, to experience and to grow. Alternative energy healing techniques can indeed, make that process much quicker, but we still have to come to terms with our lessons.

For this reason we need to be able to identify our stressors, act in accordance and do something about it. The Tarot allows us to identify such stressors for ourselves. It can be read on a purely mundane physical level or it can be read on any of the other levels. In fact, any reading should be read on all four levels for it to be totally beneficial. The Tarot is also a book of wisdom and not only will it identify the challenges, but it will give us clear instructions on what we must do to overcome them. Providing that we are willing to accept what it is telling us and take a good look at ourselves in the mirror. This is not always easy.

How can a set of cards fall into a spread and tell us what is going on? It is not magic, at least not in the sense of slight of hand magic. It is synchronicity, a phrase coined by psychologist Carl Jung and means that there is no coincidence. Sometimes we may just notice that some seemly unrelated event coincides with another to produce an outcome, which could not have happened independent of each other. We call that coincidence; Carl Jung calls it synchronicity. The truth is that all the answers and solutions to our prayers and questions are right there; right in front of us; all of the time. All we have to do is focus on the issue and pay attention to what is around us. We call it coincidence when we notice this phenomenon.

The Tarot spread is just a tool to help us focus on those answers.

By understanding the symbolism within the card we can interpret the messages, which will help us solve our challenges and move on with our lives. When we consult the Tarot deck we usually use the services of a trained reader; however, we are quite capable of using the Tarot to read for ourselves; if we are ready to be honest with ourselves. Learning to use the Tarot is a skill that takes study and practice. Messages that come by intuition constitute a channeling, not a Tarot reading. Many readers use both of these skills when they are doing a reading for a client, but the ability to channel is not required of someone who wants to use the deck for self-examination and self growth. Sometimes when something is bothering me and I find myself looping around in a situation. I pull a Tarot card to help me decipher what it is I must learn in order to progress. Sometimes, I do not like the answer the card gives me or my ego pretends that it doesn’t understand the meaning of the card and I try to pull another card. Inevitably, the next card will just say the same thing over again just to make sure I get the point.

Eventually, I may pull a card that says the exact opposite. This is my clue that I don’t really want to hear the answer, my higher self has programmed this moment, so that I get the point. In other words “If you don’t want to listen to me then I will tell you what you want to hear” and I am forced to look at the truth of the situation. There is no growth without pain LOL. This is why I have decided to put an online Tarot course on my site www.saraswatidavies.com Here you will be able to learn about the Tarot and its symbols and gain the skills necessary to use this tool for yourselves. A little personal time with a tool that offers so much insight is invaluable to those on a spiritual path. I have been using my Tarot deck for over thirty years for my own self growth and to help others who are on their spiritual journey.

The Tarot is not about predictions, although it is a predictor of patterns of human behaviour; there are other tools, such as astrology, that are much better suited for that purpose. Anyone who is considering learning to use the Tarot; please contact me and I would be happy to speak with you. If you check on my site you may find me online (usually during the day and on weekends) and we can chat, or you can email me at sara . saraswatidavies.com.
