Last night I was watching a program on the history channel about Jewish brothers who helped other jews escape from the Ghetto's. The Bielski brothers risked their own lives to help more than 1200 fellow Jews escape into the Forest near Poland, the Bielski Brothers fought against the Nazi's when they invaded the camp, only loosing forty nine men, which was an amazing feat in war time.
As I listented to the stories of the survivors and their families, I found myself thinking of how often God's chosen ones have been put to the test. How often has the world try to destoy the Jews and in the process, they end up showing just how strong God has made his people, and as born again Christians we are adopted into that elite family, so we should be offended when an attack on his people occur. We should stand not only with Israel but with her people!
Even before I gave my heart to Christ, I read of the attrocities of the Nazi's occupation over the Jews in Germany and surrounding countries. I read the account of Anne Frank, and so many others, and more recently I read Elie Wiesel's story Night! Men, Women, Children, murdered, broken, abused, treated like animals because they were Jews, and yet so many of them, kept their history, their stories alive.
The accounts of the Bielski brothers, were both gripping and graphic, but it showed what kind of strength the Lord gives us. I was reminded again, through the story, that took place decades ago, that if we put our minds to it, if we have the Lord on our side, we can achieve anything.
As I was watching this program last night, I wondered how far I would go to help those I loved? How far would any of us go?
