Nature's sparklers - a 4th of July celebration and light show without the boom!

Whether you call them fireflies, glow worms, or lightning bugs, their flashing lights announce that summer is really here. They are the essence of lazy summer nights with memories of childhoods long-gone – chasing their dancing lights and creating lanterns by putting them in old jars – temporarily of course!

Some nights their lights dart and flitter creating dot-to-dot artwork in the night sky. Other nights, the fireflies float in the blackness, lazily cruising through the night with their nightlights flashing romantic interest to nearby female flies.
They sparkle in the trees and shrubs in my backyard, giving it a festive, holiday feel. So tonight, I’ll enjoy nature’s celebration – flickering firefly sparkles of light accentuated with the staccato sounds of the cicadas and crickets. Happy 4th!

Thanks Linda,

I'm jealous of your special show. Not a firefly in my night sky.
