I posted this question on the authorsden Facebook page. I would like your views here about this issue also.

As authors, should we be more open and respectful toward others in their view points? I have experienced more then one incident of harassment on the authorsden, because of religious, political, economic views. Should we not be above this kind of behavior as authors and more open to allow others to express their views with an open mind? We don't have to accept others views but we should be above name calling and harassment. What do you think? Should authors hold themselves to a higher standard of acceptance of the views of others, because we desire to have our own work respected?

I AM SORRY YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS KIND OF RESPONSE TO YOUR POSTINGS BUT THEN SO HAVE I AND I AM WILLING TO BET, WE ARE NOT THE ONLY WRITERS/POETS ON AD THAT THIS HAPPENED TO...BECAUSE THIS IS WHAT 'PUSHING THE PEN' IS ALL ABOUT. BUT I DO THINK WE NEED TO GO BACK TO THE OLD SCHOOL RULE OF; 'IT'S NOT WHAT YOU SAY, BUT HOW YOU SAY IT'. EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OWN OPINION AND THE FACT THAT SOMEONE...ANYONE...WHOEVER IT MAY BE, TAKES THE TIME TO READ AND COMMENT ON YOUR WORK, WHETHER POSITIVELY OR NEGATIVELY, IS A GOOD THING. EVERYTHING WE WRITE IS NOT GOING TO BE LIKED OR AGREED UPON BY ALL THAT READ IT, HOWEVER, DISAGREEING COMMENTS SHOULD BE GIVEN WITH RESPECT...NOT FILLED WITH MALICIOUS INTENTIONS, ANGER AND A TOTAL DISREGARD FOR THE WRITER'S FEELINGS. A VERY GOOD QUESTION RICHARD...WELL DONE AND THANKS FOR SHARING, LOVE AND BLESSINGS, JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS.

Mr. Lichtermen, Thank you for posting an example of the kind of behavior I was writing about. I tried to write an example of the kind of behavior we needed to try to avoid, and pull ourselves to a higher standard, but you did a top notch job of writing an example for me. Sir, thank you.

I say yes. There is no reason for such disrespect. Those who want respect should be willing to give it. Those who want freedom of speech should be willing to allow the same right to others, even if they don't share the same opinions. There is no place for name calling and power postering between intelligent people who know how to communicate effectively and with civility. Personally I am sick of all the name calling and hate among members of this site.

Once again I say "Boo-Hoo" to you two whiners. It's no problem for you two to insult and demean the intelligence of those that oppose your leftist, socialistic, a notch below communistic views, but when the shoe is on the other foot you do not hesitate to insult, besmirch and demean. As far as being held to a higher standard, I brought myself to a higher standard when I switched from being a liberal to being a consecutive. So boo-hoo to you, R. Region and to you, too Joseph One-Light

I have also continuously been harassed and insulted here on authorsden for my political views. I prefer rational debate based on facts and have no respect for people who want to do nothing but cause trouble. If someone disagrees with me, that's OK but they should present facts rather than opinions, especially when discussing important issues. I'm man enough to admit that I'm wrong if/when someone proves me to be so. Being obstinate proves nothing except self-imposed blind ignorance.
