No-one will read this, so I guess I can complain as much as I like without any fears that anyone will take the slightest notice of what I say.

Frankly, I'm beginning to find hopeless-medical-condition stories somewhat depressing. There doesn't seem to be any reliance on Jesus -- He is the answer to all problems after all -- but in most of these true -life medical situations, not only does He take no role at all, but seems to have been totally pushed aside. He is literally the Forgotten Man.

Is your problem large, small, piffling, enormous? No matter what it is -- health bad, no money in the house, PC broken down -- He is the person you go to -- and not from a grovelling slave-to-master relationship or a servant-to-lord perspective either!

I can't believe that most clergymen have ever read John 15:15 in which John writes -- translating word for word straight from the Greek: "No longer I call you slaves, because the slave knows not what his lord's business is, nor what he does; but you, I call friends, because all things which I heard direct from the Father, I made known to you." (And of course, through the gospels, some of the most important of those things which Jesus heard direct from the Father are now made known to us).

He is our friend. Friends give each other gifts, and one of His gifts is the gift of good health.

So how do you find Him and become His friend? Church? Possible, but risky, as it’s easy to get sidetracked into all sorts of political, social and denominational issues whoch have no connection with God’s friendship at all.

The Bible? Possible, but also risky. It all depends on the Bible. So far as the Old Testament is concerned, almost all English-language Bibles depend upon the corrupt medieval Masoretic text, instead of the far more pure Septuagint. I’m not saying the Septuagint is perfect but it is far superior to the Hebrew (unless, of course, you consult the Dead Sea scrolls).

The New Testament? It’s a mess! Almost from publication day itself, the text has been added to and mutilated by countless editors and scribes. Fortunately, the text’s sacred character has ensured that at least most of the original text has survived. It’s still there. The only really notable deletion is the concluding chapter(s) of Mark’s Gospel. So it is possible to try to reconstruct the text as it was originally set down by its original inspired authors.

This is what I have attempted in my series of translations, including “MARK and JOHN: The First and Last Gospels”.

I'm not sure if I understand clearly what you are suggesting. I agree that Jesus wants to be our friend. I agree that this friendship is not found in church or the Bible. Your article however, doesn't tell us wher this frienship is found. May I suggest that this frienship is found us embracing Christ and the life that He lived out on the pages of the Bible?
