Of course, everyone wants to put the health of children first, but this shouldn't come at the expense of common sense. Introducing unwanted government legislation into the lives of families is a gross violation of common sense.
No doubt, San Francisco Supervisor Eric Mar is trying to make a name for himself and deems sponsoring the Happy Meal ordinance a civil service. But surely there are more important duties supervisors can be performing outside of governmental parenting.
How did families let the government into their households in the first place? Did it start with government-run child care and calorie counting of diet sodas? Was it the school lunch program?
The government intruding in family life and trying to be a parent will never be as effective as a child's mother and father.
Many responsible parents use Happy Meals as a treat, and not a regular diet. Call me crazy, but when I see a city that considers legalizing pot and outlawing Happy Meals, I begin to wonder about those in supervisory positions.
