[August 6, 2012] In Book One of the novel Mars Armor Forged, politics and science land the 2038 Olympics on the planet Mars amid suspicions that its long dead volcanoes can be reactivated for the good of Earth and a faltering Mars colony. At 1:31 am Monday morning, August 6, 2012, in one of those captivating instances where life imitates art, humanity's latest and most ambitious foray to the Red Planet coincided with the staging of the 2012 Olympics in London.
Previous discoveries from Mars exploration revealed the presence of both water below the surface of the planet and methane above. Water would have made life possible either now or in the past. However, the startling presence of methane may indicate either unlikely activity from volcanoes thought to be millions of years into their extinction or the biological processes of current life on the seemingly barren landscape. As in the Mars Armor Forged series, mankind is out to discover which. In this case we'll do it with the jumbo-sized Curiousity Rover bristling with scientific instruments including one from our new partners in Russia. If the methane somehow turns out to be tracable to neither volcanoes nor life, the planet Mars will need to provide us with an awfully creative explanation.
