This ebook includes classroom-tested lesson ideas on basic time telling, reading analog and digital clocks, 24-hour clocks, the reasons for seasons, and much more.

Learning to tell time is a very important concept for young students, and often quite difficult to master. There are many tried and true activities to make the learning a bit easier. While most in today's world are used to using a digital clock, teaching children to read an old-fashioned, analog clock or watch has value as well.

Analog and Digital Clocks

The old paper plate clock is a favorite of many teachers. Admittedly, it is quite low- tech in this modern day world, but it still works. To have your students make clocks you'll need a paper plate, some construction paper or index cards, markers and a brass fastener for each student. Have students mark the hours on the clock with crayons or markers. Start at the top with 12, followed by 6 at the bottom, and 3 and 9 at the sides. Once those numbers are in place, help students to put in the others. Then let them cut clock hands out of the construction paper or cards. You may want to make a pattern for this to ensure uniformity. Attach the hands with the brass fastener and you're ready to go.
