20 Questions that Promote Self-Growth & Spirituality 11/22/2009 9:00:32 PM It is only after having a one on one encounter with Jesus that we see the true state of our lives, the wretchedness, the helplessness, and our inability to do anything about our situation.
Jesus attracts people from all walks of life.We who need Him, oftentimes, do not realize that we are deficient in some way.
It is only after having a one on one encounter with Jesus that we see the true state of our lives, the wretchedness, the helplessness, and our inability to change any of it.
Frequently,we are hemorrhaging (figuratively),but we keep going, pretending that nothing is wrong.
Jesus, with His omniscient powers, sees through our many facades and masks,to our bare bruised souls and spirits (the woman at the well, the demon possessed, the woman caught in the act of adultery,me,you).
This is where He begins His miraculous work, because no matter how attractive or normal we appear on the outside,it is the condition of our inner selves, our inner beings, that tells the true story.
We must remember that Jesus came to earth to seek, to save the lost, and at some point we all fit into this category, whether we are willing to admit it or not.
How do we gain a better understanding of our need for a growing relationship with Jesus?
Answering the following 20 questions,I believe, will help us to determine what we (personally)need to do to seek Him out so that we can experience life to the full in every way:
1. Do I love Jesus? Why,why not?
2. Do I love myself? Why,why not?
3. Do I envy anyone?
4. Am I jealous of anyone?
5. Is there something I covet?
6. Are there people I dislike or wish ill-will?
7. Is there someone I need to forgive?
8. Is there someone or something I need to forget?
9. Do I pray for anyone other than myself and/or my loved ones?
10.Do I love unselfishly?
11.Do I consider how my actions or inactions may impact others before I act?
12.Am I growing daily?
13.Is my life the very best it can be at this point?
14.Am I doing all I can do with what I have been given?
15.Do I know my purpose in life?
16.Am I passionately pursuing my purpose,my mission?
17.Are people better as a result of my influence in/on their lives?
18.Have I stopped trying to do things 'my way?'
19.Am I grateful?
20.How can I move forward doing the most good with what I have?
Of course, this list of questions is not exhaustive by any means, but when we think about these questions carefully and answer them honestly,we will see what needs to be done to promote more self-growth and spirituality.
WHAT TO DO NEXT:
1.Spend some time during the next two or three days thinking about and writing honest answers to the 20 questions.
2.Decide what action steps you need to take and follow through with them.
3.Share what you are doing with someone with whom you have mutual love and respect.
4.Ask the person to help hold you accountable in answering the questions, and in taking action.
