Weird Stuff #1 2/8/2012 2:10:04 PM I don’t know why I think up all this crap. Question:
What is the horse power rating of a mosquito?
Answer:
The average mosquito weighs 2.5 grams and consumes 5 micro liters of blood per meal. The combined weight is roughly 55 ten thousandths of a pound. One horsepower is defined as lifting 550 lbs one foot in one second. Therefore conservatively estimating that a mosquito lifts only its weight plus liquid cargo, it puts out an impressive one-one hundred thousandth of a horsepower. That means one hundred thousand mosquitoes can do the work of one horse. How’s that for perspective? Now I know why I sometime feel like they are carrying me off.
