My Inner Voice 2/5/2010 11:04:57 AM This is a short paragraph I wrote and submitted as an entry in a contest. It describes my inner voice. Everyone has an inner voice. I discovered mine after I was paralyzed in a car accident when I was 14 years old. I had to rely on my inner voice because society did not want to take my words seriously because of my paralysis. My inner voice told me that I had to depend on myself if I wanted to be successful in life because other people were not going to put forth the same amount of effort I was willing to put forth to ensure my success. I realized I wanted to be a famous writer many years ago, and my inner voice told me that I could make it happen if I tried hard enough. I am now 33 years old, and I went through stretches of indecision over the years. I allowed the world around me to garble my inner voice. I am now listening to my inner voice more than I ever have before. I self published my own book of poetry "Simple Thoughts" in 2009, and I actually contacted a traditional publishing company yesterday about submitting a completed manuscript for a book I recently finished writing. I listened to my inner voice. The publishing company may decide to not offer me a contract for my book, but I will continue listening to my inner voice regardless of what may happen. I do this through staying active, studying, praying, meditating, and writing. I may sometimes lose the ability to hear my inner voice in the future, but I will refocus on what my voice told me after I was paralyzed. My inner voice will remind me that I will be successful if I depend on myself while putting forth the effort to succeed.
