The View Through My Window

Am I the only active creature in this northern wonderland this morning? Neither hummingbird nor eagle nor loon, deer or sassy, red squirrel have yet to make an appearance. Perhaps, Monday is the Sunday of the critter world, the day when they all give thanks to their woodland deities for restoring peace to their neighborhoods, peace afforded by the sudden disappearance of the furless bipeds. But they'll be back, the bipeds. They always come back.

Not all the people have gone home. Two fishermen in a bass boat troll silently past my dock. The morning is calm, the water still. A fuzzy spinnerbait plops on top of the water near the shoreline. Circular ripples radiate like crop circles, then disappear. The two fishermen repeat their unsuccessful casting efforts a few times before trolling around the bend and disappearing from view in search of the morning's first lunker. Sound travels across the water and I hear one of the men say he thought he felt a tug near the boat.

The blue patches above the water are disappearing as rain clouds populate the sky. Is that why the neighborhood is so very lifeless this morning? Everyone decided that rain was likely and they'd sleep in? Maybe I'll go back to bed, too.
