Mother's Day Reflections
5/13/2007 11:05:43 AM
Today while shopping at the store, two people said "happy mother's day" to me. Neither of them knew me. I said thank you graciously but thought what if I was a woman who had never been a mother? Or maybe a woman who had lost a child? Or a woman desperately trying to become a mother?

I think we all need to conscious of our surroundings and of others before we open our mouths. A day such as Mother's Day can be filled with wonderful happenings and memories but it can also be fraught with anxiety by many people.

I spent the day alone in anonymity except for my venture to the store. It has been a good day, but those greetings did make me think about the friendly yet often thoughtless things we say in the course of a day. A smile and a friendly holding of the door sometimes work the best.
